Dear All,
In our organisation the following leaves are allowed:
1) Casual Leave
2) Sick Leave
3) Earned Leave
4) C. Off
I have a doubt that can any employee use the above leaves in combinations
eg: if employee want 10 days leave
Is the following sequence correct or not?
EL EL EL EL SL SL Coff EL EL W.Off EL
our manager advices that all C.off s should be used in begining or ending and he not allowed in between like above eg.
Is it correct or not.
kiNDLY GIVE THE GUIDANCE FOR THE LEAVE RULES & PROCEDURES.
Regards.

Hi Sekhar,
I understand your query. It depends on your company policy whether to club ELs and CLs or not. Most of the companies do not club CLs and ELs or anyother form of leave. But, the thing is, If your organisation is having blue collared employees, you may need to be a bit liberal with them and allow them clubbing, Anyhow, that too is the sole wish of your concerned HR Lead or Manager. I hope you got your answer, If you have any doubts, please feel free to get back.
Sunanda, C Off means Compensatory Off. If aan employee works on any of the national holidays, he would be given with a Compensatory to compensate with th day he worked on national holiday or public day. Hopes this clears your doubt too.

Kiran.

Hello Chandra sekhar,

To start with let me focus your attention to the objectives of the leaves. Each type of leave that you have mentioned has been evolved with an objective in mind. They are to solve the purpose of both the employers and employees.

For eg:

EL - It is a previledged leave earned by the employee against working for 20 full working days in a company. Thus, availing this leave should be at the discretion/freedom of the employee. Of course, his application for availing EL could be refused if his presence is very much required for the company during the period he has applied the leave for, but it generally doesnt happen.

SL - is evolved only for medical/health purpose. It is very natural for any of us to fall sick iwth out prior understanding. So, to take care of these emergencies it could be used. It is not fair on the part of employees to abuse it by taking it in combination with EL for extending the leave.

CL - it is evolved to meet the casual emergencies at personal level. For eg., it may happen that a relative drops in from other station with out notice / some urgent bank work / booking a new gas or telephone conenction / children's school or college admission etc which takes about half or a full day time of an employee and is unavoidable. Basically it is meant for an unplanned acitivity of unavoidable nature. Thus, as per my opinion if it is taken in combination with EL, it may be in a way abused.

Now it's upto you and your management to design a policy on availing the leaves in combination

Hi Sekhar,
I agree with Sai Kiran. I would like to add one point regarding clubbing compensatory off with any type of leave; we should add prior to commencement of leave or after expiry of leave.

Dear Friend,

Regarding the CL, SL its a company's policy its depending up on the understanding between the management and employees. Regarding

the EL, C.Off as per the Factories Act (if in the Indian Companies).

i.e. every employee works 20 days contineously works 1 day EL will

be accumlated (for adults). But some of the companies are total pakage

30 days of EL will be giving per year. Even though the quantum of leaves

are there the concern HR person will draft the "Leave Rules" and get the

approval from the Management. In my view the following is for example:

ALL THE EMPLOYEES

All the Employees are hereby in formed that the following leaves and leave rules are introduced and will be come into force with effect from:_____________________

1. CASUAL LEAVES 12 Per Year

2. SICK LEAVES 12 Per Year

3. EARNED LEAVES 15 Per Year (Aprox. As per Factories Act)

1. CASUAL LEAVE

a) An employee may be granted causal leave for a maximum of 12days during the calendar year (i.e 1st January to 31st December)

b) An employee who is appointed during the course of the year shall be entitled to it on pro-rata basis.

c) Save in exceptional circumstances causal leave will not be granted for more than three days at a time.

d) Any absence of more than the number of days allowed for causal leave shall, when not due to sickness, be treated as unauthorized absence from duty.

e) If holiday falls in between casual leave, the leave will be treated as earned leave.

f) Unavailed casual leave will be lapsed at the end of the year.

2. SICK LEAVE

a) An employee may be granted sick leave for a maximum of 12days during the calendar year (i.e 1st January to 31st December)

b) The sick leave will be considered only for two day, more than two days will be considered with the support of medical certificate. The supported medical certificate should be issued by a Regd. Medical Practitioner not below the rank of MBBS doctor.

c) The unavailed sick leave will be carry forward to next year.

d) Maximum accumulation of sick leave is 30days.

e) Sick leave should not be clubbed with any other leave.

3. EARNED LEAVE

a) Every employee who has worked for a period of 20days or more shall be allowed one day as earned leave.

b) Earned leave will be sanctioned only on continuous basis; holidays if any in between will be exempted.

c) Earned leave cannot be availed off more than 3times in calendar year.

d) Earned leave may be accumulated up to 60days. Leave up to maximum of 30days will be encashed on the discretion of the management.

NOTE:- AVAILING LEAVE IS NOT A MATTER OF RIGHT. THE MANAGEMENT CAN THUS REFUSE TO GRANT LEAVE TO AN EMPLOYEE DUE TO EXGENCIES OF WORK. THE CASUAL LEAVE SHOULD GET SANCTIONED 02 TO 03 DAYS BEFORE AVAILING FROM THE DEPT.HEAD, AND THE EARNED LEAVE AS PER THE FACTORIES ACT.

Hope the information my be helpful to you
