Headhunting can be done by following ways:
Consultants (outsourcing recruitment)
Paper ads
Job portals
Internal references
Personal network
Professional networks/sites (citehr, joso.com etc)
campus placements
Job fairs
Kiosks at malls during weekends
Poaching the candidates at the interview venues
call the board line, get an entry into rival company thru one and use his references. are some infact there are many ways. |

Is that Head Hunting all about ?
I have a slightly different opinion about Head Hunting.
I believe Head Hunting is a process of recruitment where in you want to reach or contact a specific person on a specific designation in a company and you do not have a direct contact of him. I will consider it an Art which HR people possesses.
For example, if you want to hire a Project Manager from a specific IT company and you don't have his contact details, but you have got contact details of one of his team members, then you will first contact that team member and try to get the contact details of his Project Manager and that is why I consider it to be an Art. |

| | Re: Different ways of Head Hunting Headhunting in recruitment is a very unique approach of tracing an individual based on the skeletal coordinates available with you at that time.To be a good headhunter, essential prerequisites are convincing skills, persuasion, ability to think beyond and good engagement skills. In fact search firms are adept at headhunting. It all boils down to passion.I believe if one has a passion towards recruitment, headhunting skills will be honed with time |

And Sari,Prashant & Ryan ,being seniors i think you can share more about headhunting...as how to crack it. For eg; if iam want to poach a consultant /manager recruitment from an executive search firm/placement firm , how to do it ?
One way is by calling the board number ...and then what to ask ? |

| | Re: Different ways of Head Hunting I could understand that you want to poach Manager from a consulting firm..
In that case, you may call up the board line asking for manager (need not say his name), and say that this is for a business, try talking as a new client..while conversing you may take all his details, take his personal number...and try poaching him. YOu need lot of tact while poaching senior members. |
