Here is a beautiful short story of how a genius after being successful can have a downfall. A must read for all, and more important, the learnings from if and answer the 11 questions. Trust you will enjoy reading and share the learings.

Let Go - The Ego

There was once a learned scientist after a lot of practice and efforts developed a formula and learned the art of reproducing himself. He did it so perfectly that it was impossible to tell the reproduction from the original. Thus was successsful in his formula.

One day while doing his research realized that the Angel of Death was searching for him. In order to remain immortal he reproduced a dozen copies of himself. The reproduction was so meticulous that all of them looked exactly like him. Now when this Angel of death came down, he was at a loss to know which of the thirteen before him was the original scientist, and confused, he left them all alone and returned back to heaven.

But, not for long, for being an expert in human nature, the Angel came up with a clever idea. He said to the scientist addressing all thirteen of them, “Sir, you must be a genius to have succeeded in making such perfect reproduction formula of yourself. However, I have discovered a flaw in your work, just one tiny little flaw.”

The scientist immediately jumped out and shouted, “Impossible! Where is the flaw?” “Right here” said the Angel, as he picked up the scientist from among the reproductions and carried him off.

The whole purpose of the scientist and his formula of reproduction failed as he could not control his pride and lost his life.

So check out friends, while your Knowledge and Skills takes you to the top of the ladder and make you successful, but the three letter word “EGO” will pull you down immediately. Let go your Ego.

Now, Let us ponder on some of our Ego too?

Do I have it?

What is it about?

Why do I have it?

What purpose does it solve?

Whom does or will it affect?

What consequence can it have within your organization/team/colleagues?

What consequence can it have within your family and its members?

How will your relationship get affected because of it?

Do I know people or situations or events where people have fallen because of their ego? What can I learn from it?

How can I overcome it?

What do I need to do to “Let go – The Ego”?

Friends please do share your learning from the above and learn from it.

Dear Peer Mohammed,
Nice One.
Actually there is four types of ego, if we let out, we will be best.
1. I am OK. You are also OK.
(Example. I am also passed in exam. you are also passed. without comparing the percentage of marks)
2. I am not fine. But you are good.
(Example. I am failed. But luckily you were passed in the exam)
3. I am Ok. But you are not OK.
(Example: I passed in exam and came out of the degree. But you still have the arrears)
4. We were not good.
(Example. Both of us were failed. Why comparison in marks).
All the four types will have some similarity but it different from one another.
If we throw this four ego, then we will be one among the best.

Dear Mr. Peer,
Story is good to learn, but, is there any life without ego ? other than prophet / saint. We are general people, ego is every individual's asset but, it shouldn't use / show unnecessarily. It is true if any one can restrain himself from ego, certainly he will get success in life.
Please remember, there are many bad elements besides you who may pinch you to burst out with your ego. keep yourself far from those bad elements.
No ego no life - No life no ego = 0
Thanks.

Hi Peer Saab,
It's a very good post.
Here i would like to mention Eric Berne (not very sure about the spelling of his name) who is a very famous Transactional Analyst and have written several books on the same.
One of the famous books is I'm OK, you are OK.
In the book the author speaks about the four Ego states in humans.
1. I'm OK, YOu'r OK
2. I'm OK, YOu'r not OK
3. I'm not OK, You'r OK
4. I'm not OK, You'r not OK
and the best EGO state is the first one which is I'm OK your OK.
We all have to strive to be in this EGO State which simply means value yourself and value others equally.

Reshma

Dear All,
It is good to read diverse views on the topic.
No life without ego...?
EGO is edging God out of your life.
Try replacing the word "ego" with "self-esteem"
And life will become truly meaningful and worth living.

Gud one Peer Sir,
But do we really follow this or can we do it? EGO is such a dog who would smell u & keep following u. I feel one who works hard develops his ego unknowingly & calls it self respect & starts nourishing it & the day one's EGO gets hurt & one comes forward to defend one's self respect people call it EGO.
Can any body tell me the difference between EGO & Self Respect & when this self respect gets transformed into EGO? plz explain wid example.

Well a very good post indeed and something i would love to forward everyone...
However, I feel Ego represents our identity and therefore it is difficult to "Let it Go." The solution could be to Diversify the Ego in right manner ... or say in proper channel...
Once again "Thanks for the post..."
Regards,
Anil.

Hi Peer saheb,
that was a lovely info that you've posted. I think man can give up anything and everything except EGO in life. bu the other explanation of EGO is ez go. we need to learn to swallow our egos. this depends on every individual.
I have a friend who is very particular in bring change around in everybody but end he doesn't succeed coz the change is required outside but it should start from us.
Definately am not going to keep this to my self, shall pass it on to as many as possible.
thanks again for sharing info. Keep going

Dear Sir
This is not EGO.
This perfectly anxiety.
Ego is entirely different. One who is adamant and does not accept the other for any reason. Say may be a boss, a head wait friend, WIFE, cursed son/daughter
I am having a one such sort. (I do not want to call him as boss or superior). He will not accept the other and call them as his subordinate, and address himself as his superior.
In my opinion that is E G OE.
In the case of scientist, it is only anxiety that some one has find a fault on his invention. It is quiet natural.
You have invented some thing and some body is finding fault in that means naturally the inventor will have the interest to know it.
This has happened in the case of that scientist.
