Default How do i make them understand???????

Dear All,

I am working in a manufacturing sector as a HR executive...

At present the factory is located in a semi-residential area & we have our new plant set up in an Industrial Park - Bangalore.. This is in the outskirts of the city... We are providing transportation & the log in is at 7.30 in the morning..
The problem here is that most of the workers have done their elementary schooling, they are skilled workers & they are paid minimun wages...
The management has decided to provide them temprorary transportation for which the workers have retaliated & also have decided that they would opt for public transportation & they want the company to pay them the transport allowance.. I am damm sure they cannot make it on time if they opt for regular city buses...

Being a HR i need to convince them that we will give them a permanent transportation once things are set... But for time being they have to adjust.. For them its only money & nothing else.....

What do i do??????????? How do i make them understand???

Thanks & Regards

Hello,

Shifting of the factory in the industrial area is correct.

If the company is paying just minimumwages to the workmen, it is in its own (company's) interests to provide transportation both ways in each shift for the following principal reasons:

1) The expense incurred will be revenue expense (totally tax deductible) as far as corporate taxation is concerned.
2) Company transport (whether own or hired) will ensure that all workmen will reach place of work and start work at the appointed time each day/shift!
3) The workmen will reach place of work in a relatively fresh state. The productivity will therefore be facilitated.
4) Attandance, coordination at work will be much facilitated also.

But, facilities extended to the workmen should not be, ideally, on temporary basis! Yes, the company's financial condition today may permit provision of such a facility gratis and in difficult times it will be difficult to withdraw. Personally I find this "financial condition" logic rather lame! However, you must never give anything gratis. The company must charge at least a token charge for use by the workmen of the transportation facility.

If you need more assistance, please raise a request!
