BPO India --- Make way for the Paymasters (HR)!!!!
The Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Industry in India is making hay while the sun is still shining on them by introducing the next big wave --- Outsourcing of human resource services or HR BPO estimated at $40-60 billion per annum, According to experts.
The HR BPO comprises payroll, which constitute 35 per cent of the market, benefits (31 per cent), education/training (15 per cent), recruiting/staffing (12 per cent) and others (seven per cent).

"HR BPO comes to about 33 per cent of the outsourcing pie. India has immense potential as more than 80 per cent of Fortune 1000 companies will discuss offshore BPO as a way to cut costs and increase productivity," said V Chandrasekaran, co-founder of Secova eServices, the first Indian HR BPO. Sensing the potential, Global BPO players including Fidelity, Exult and Hewitt have begun setting up operations in India. However, most HR BPO players have not leveraged the offshore advantage as yet, he Informed.
"HR opportunity is absolutely new. It is a sunrise opportunity with huge potential," Chandrasekaran, who formed Secova eServices to tap this potential, said. In HR BPO, revenues depend on the number of employees the clients have. This is in sharp contrast to a typical BPO, where the bills are charged on the workers servicing a client overseas.
Despite the huge potential, not many companies have leveraged the strategy. "The main reasons for not leveraging the HR BPO benefit have been companies being undercapitalized or not knowing enough about the HR BPO business," said Chandrasekaran.

BPO India Industry -- BPOs encourage Parents Day Out

Keeping in mind the concerns and queries about the BPO employee’s parents, major BPOs in India have come up with quick solutions to keep these parents fully contented about their child’s future in the BPO sector. HR heads of leading BPOs are increasingly recognizing the need to attend to parental concerns about job profile, career opportunities, and work-place environment in the industry.
In its own special way, Each BPO India is trying to win the hearts of Parents so that they may encourage their wards to enter the gigantic BPO industry. Taking the lead is the 12,000-head strong Wipro Spectra mind, which has come out with a beginner’s guide for careers in the IT-enabled services industry. Apart from answering FAQs about career in the BPO industry, the book also tackles common career myths surrounding this sector. “With this book in hand these first timers champion our cause. The message we want to give out to parents is that we are serious about their child’s career,” says S Varadarajan, vice president, Talent Engagement & Development, Wipro Spectra mind.

Also, taking care of its employees and their parents concern is another BPO India major Gurgaon-based Convergys Corporation, which has employee base of around 10,000. Convergys invite the parents of new recruits for a walk-through across office. “We want them to have a personal feel about our workplace and deal with their apprehensions, if any, then and there” says Nandini Aggarwal, vice president (HR), Convergys India. It has been noted that most HR executives feel that career growth opportunities within the industry will grow as the industry matures. Sops by companies in terms of easy loans for pursuit of higher studies also help to improve long-term job prospect of employees, apart from helping the company to keep their flock together in face of high attrition rate.

Several HR executives concede that many parents are apprehensive about the night-work culture in most BPOs. “However, doctors, engineers, people in armed forces, hospitality industry, and those in essential services like railway, telecom and airlines are used to working in the night and no-one complains,” points out Varadarajan.
Some of these BPOs also organize social functions such as a fun-filled Family day where there’s healthy interaction between the Parents and the Company officials besides, a scrumptious fare and entertainment

Hi
In my opinion, Joining a BPO is fine as long as your profile is good. There are lot many parameters like for how long they have been in business, who are their major clients, and above all if this organisation fits your career plan.

My advise would be think for next 3-5 years, if you can work in that organisation then go ahead. There is no point making a short term decision.

Rest is up to you.
Do let me know your decision.
