The only way to make the IR class interesting is to use case studies on IR and to involve the class in giving their own reactions and suggestions.

Dear Sakshi,

Well the subject is very dear to me and I think it is one of the most important part of HR or Personnel were we have the real power to decide and regulate issues relating to operations, productivity, while all the other HR functions are basically support functions. The importance of an IR in factory is much more than a HR in Corporate Office and I have personally seen and felt the difference.

I when teaching IR usually go in with live examples and experiences and link them with Statutues, bodies like ILO and Government.

I tried one thing and always find it successful is to divide the batch into groups and further dividing them and give various issues and case laws, situations and tell them to solve it. ANd during each case I bring in the statutes, laws of natural justice and other relevant information to guide them how to move about.

Sometimes it can be discipline case, sometimes a deputation or sometimes a Charter of Demand.

If you really want further and detailed help then you will have to call me and I can help you.

Regards,
SC

Being a student of HR, I would say that knowing rules and regulations in the class is boring. One thing that can create interest in me for the subject is, knowing the procedures and the way that a person can act in different situations, rather than theory of Policies, acts and rules.

One thing that I would have done If I were a lecturer is to, take examples from the movies, and then start joking on them illustrating the rules and regulations that apply to the case, and that they were not shown in the movie. What this can potentially do is to reflect the case repeatedly, when the studens watch the films again.

This is only a suggestion, from students' perspective.

Thanks for giving an opportunity to share with you, this critical thing.

Regards,
VINAY
