Hello All
I have applied for a lateral movement in my company from Individual contributor role to Team Leader operations. I am sure the interview
panel are going to ask why i am changing from an IC to TL. How should i answer this in the best possible way.
Also if they ask what i have learned in IC role and what challenges i forsee in a TL role and how will i overcome or solve them.
i worked in IC role for 3 years
For first time i am posting a question on this webstie and looking for some help.
Thank you all

Dear friend,

Every professional aspires to advance his/her career and you are no exception. With three years behind as Individual Contributor (IC), yours is fitting case for promotion.

By handling role of TL, you will be acquiring supervisory position. To become manager in future, holding this assignment is important. While you may leapfrog to the managerial role, but that would be risky and it is better to go step by step.

As a supervisor, you will be guiding group of persons. You will not be just responsible for the your performance but for other's performance as well. Getting work done from others is one of the challenging tasks. This role involves guiding, coaching, motivating & counselling team members. Unless you become TL, you cannot master art of delegation which is vital for the managerial role.

Hope the above points are enough for you. However, if you wish to have few more points then you may Google and search for "Difference between worker and supervisor" OR "Difference between Supervisor and Manager".

All the best! Once the entire process completes then come back and give us feedback on the outcome of your interview.

Apart from what Mr.Diensh said, you can also say that you want to groom yourself for leadership positions in your career ahead for which TL will be the first rung to cross. Think that being aspirational is natural for growth and even the inteview panel does not want any candidate to stagnate in one position. All the best.
