I been working in a private limited firm for a year now, and when I asked them to give me at least a document which can show that I'm working in it, so they refused and started ignoring me. And are not giving proper response on it. It's been a year and still I don't even have anything (appointment letter, salary slip or others). Can I take legal action against them.

What is your position in the company? What is the nature of company and strength of employees. How is the salary paid?
Many companies do not give appointment letter or salary slip in India. But that does not take away your right as an employee.
You can try to obtain photocopies of attendance registered, salary register, any office memo, internal memo, any letter of authority issued to you by the company which can be used to prove your employment.
Legally you can write a simple letter to the company stating that you have been working as ..... with the company w.e.f.......... and your last drawn was Rs.............. for month of .................... You now need a salary slip for the month of .............. for some reason (reason is not important). BUT SEND THIS LETTER THROUGH SPEED/ REGISTERED POST. Keep the postal receipt as well as online track report for future reference.
Let the company answer you/ ignore you first. Thereafter, you can proceed further legally.

I think you can write a letter to HR dept and request for a appointment letter , don't harsh because here not required , so give them reminder to reminder then definitely they ill provide the letter , because every company have different point of view. so please try to maintain your company policy.
anth bhala to sab bhala so be polite.

You can write a letter to your company boss/dept head (if it is large org) directly instead of HR etc., as any letter addressed to top management will get attention immediately and resolved also, try that and you will get required letter without delay !!

How they pay your salary? Through cheque/ NEFT if by cheque or NEFT the salary is paid the bank statement can be a proof of your employment.
If you are paid in cash then you have to get other proofs like attendance/leave register copy.
Also you can ask orally and can make secret video/audio recording of the conversation with HR/ management person.
