Praying for others
Dear all nice one for a voyaging ship was wrecked during a storm at sea and only two of the men on it were able to swim to a small desertlike island. the two survivors not knowing what else to do agreed that they had no other recourse but to pray to god. however to find out whose prayer was more powerful they agreed to divide the territory between them and stay on opposite sides of the island. the first thing they prayed for was food. the next morning the first man saw a fruitbearing tree on his side of the land and he was able to eat its fruit. the other man s parcel of land remained barren. after some days the first man was lonely and he decided to pray for a wife. the next day another ship was wrecked and the only survivor was a woman who swam to his side of the island. on the other side of the island the second man had nothing. soon the first man prayed for a house clothes and more food. the next day like magic all of these were given to him. however the second man still had nothing. finally the first man prayed for a ship so that he and his wife could leave the island. in the morning he found a ship docked at his side on the island. the first man boarded the ship with his wife and decided to leave the second man on the island. he considered the other man unworthy to receive god s blessings since none of his prayers had been answered. as the ship was about to leave the first man heard a voice from heaven booming: "why are you leaving your companion on the island?" "my blessings are mine alone since i was the one who prayed for them" the first man replied. "his prayers were all unanswered and so he does not deserve anything." "you are mistaken" the voice rebuked him. "he had only one prayer which i answered." "tell me" the first man asked the voice "what did he pray for that i should owe him anything?" "he prayed that all your prayers be answered." it is easy to get so caught up in asking god to provide us what we need or merely want that we forget to pray for others. may god help us to be sensitive to the needs of others around us and may we take advantage of every opportunity to approach the throne of grace regards dilnaz

Housing challenges
Greetings i think all of us that live and/or work in auh know the current challenges over find accomodation. i thought we might get a discussion going about how this has or may effect your business. has your company had to significantly adjust either housing or salary packages to attract candidates? where are you finding housing? are you giving lump sum and expecting the candidate to figure out housing on their own? does your company provide any mechanism like interest free loan from the organization to meet the one year rent upfront obligation? is all this effecting recruitment and retention rates? are many of your employees leaving off the island and commuting far distances? ie from dubai or al ain or outlying areas. i think many of us would benefit form knowing how the majority of us are coping with this from a people and organizational perspective here in the capital. cheers bruncha
Learning 11 - kindness inside
Hi hope you like the inspiring story during nelson mandelas 19 years imprisoned on robben island one particular commanding officer was the most brutal of them all: a few days before badenhorsts departure i was called to the main office. general steyn was visiting the island and wanted to know if we had any complaints. badenhorst was there as i went through a list of demands. when i had finished badenhorst spoke to me directly. he told me he would be leaving the island and added: i just want to wish you people good luck. i do not know if i looked dumbfounded but i was amazed. he spoke these words like a human being and showed a side of himself we had never seen before. i thanked him for his good wishes and wished him luck in his endeavours. i thought about this moment for a long time afterwards. badenhorst had perhaps been the most callous and barbaric commanding officer we had had on robben island. but that day in the office he had revealed that that there was another side to his nature a side that had been obscured but still existed. it was a useful reminder that all men even the most seemingly coldblooded have a core of decency and that if their hearts are touched they are capable of changing. ultimately badenhorst was not evil; his inhumanity had been foisted upon him by an inhuman system. he behaved like a brute because he was rewarded for brutish behaviour.
Challenges faced by hr professional
Hi everyone i am currently pursuing m.sc psychology in human resource development and management. as a part of my assignment i had to talk with the hr manager of employee relations and welfare to understand the challenges faced by him. as the part of discussion i came to know that the major challenges faced by him are trust issues behavioral issues and to maintain a balanced relationship between the manager and employees. what are the strategies you would use in your organization to overcome such challenges? opinions are welcomed and appreciated.
Human resources - integrated --- a discussion
No man is an island and so it is with disciplines each of which are the outcomes of intertwining thoughts and opinions. traditionally the corporate world has been divided into hr and nonhr with human resource management seen as a cost centre and only as a support function. but slowly things are changing. now organizations are frequently looking towards hr for solutions to their problems new wave is emerging that of: human resource integrated. human resource management is intricately woven with other disciplines of management to perform all its functions. each branch of learning whether finance or marketing is reflected in the routine workings of hr. i would like your view points as to th role of hr today specifically new functions as to what hr has taking up to become a strategic function. regards mallet.
