hello,
I am an MBA 1st Yr student.
I want to know that in addition to my MBA in HR, should I opt for additional subjects in Finance because I was told by some seniors that now a days, Financial companies are looking for a HR person with a good knowledge of Finance also.
To what extent is this true ?
Pls reply

Priya,
ur question depends on ur thinking :?:
ur the best to evaluate that, the way u wanna start the career.
Its not manditory to Opt for a spl course for finance if at all to get into a financial based firm.
for eg: there r HRs in the software firms not necessarly to learn r did any related softwares but they shud understand the domain in wer they r working n have to survive....thats all...
better to wait for more responses dont be in hurry, lots of time ther for u to decide, the board here is ther to help each other....
cheers,
Bharat

Dear Priya,
Dont neglect because have a clear discussion with your senior in what aspect it will help you doing finance and in retuen what will be your participation in it,it will be an added advantage for your future,it is not compulsion that you have to undergo finance.
Thanks,
Uma

Dear Priya,

According to me, if you have the option of also doing Finance as a specialisation or addition along with HR donot hesitate to do. No knowledge is useless. I have been in HR for the last 16 years. One of the main strengths I always discovered about myself is that I have an edge over many of my fellow peers, I do not have to depend on the finance man, i am not and cannot be taken for a ride by Finance / Accounts person, I am not overwhelmed by financial data or figures, and moreover, my understanding of finance / accountancy has in fact enabled and strengthened my position. You can do your own budgets, etc., and can interact with equal terms with any other professional in the corporate world. You will not be overawed or left out if you develop your conceptual understanding of the subject and try to keep yourself abreast. According to me, it will certainly improve your analytical ability and also help you better in decision-making or substantiating your points of view in discussions or making presentations. Moreover, I have always seen the underconfident CEO's over relying on the Finance guys (no offence met to finance guys and gals!!!). I would suggest that you take the opportunity by its throat. Good luck and wish you all the best.
