Job description formats can be drawn in different ways. JD is written for every position in the Organization. The jd head-lines I use are: Role, Responsibility, processes, critical attributes (skill-sets required) and measures of performance. We can also add educational qualification and experience if the position under consideration is at induction level. Have attached two files as illustration.6trf5

Nice work, Sachin. I am sure it would be useful in most places. My concept of job description or role definition would transcend the mere format and would be a narrative of the essence of one's job. The paragraph headings for such a narrative would be: 1. Role - a two or three sentence description of the outcome of this position. 2. Responsibility: detailing of activities/processes that one is responsible for

3. Measures of performance - parameters for assessing the effectiveness of the incumbant from this position which should be clearly or quantifiably measurable. 4. Critical attributes: requirements in terms of knowledge, skill, attitude and other personal qualities 5. This is an optional parameter for puposes of recruitment such as educational qualification, experience etc.

Effectively such a document when handed over to the incumbant at the time of assuming office will provide role clarity and total expectations and resources available for accomplishments. Have used this documentation in two organizations that I consulted with.

A typical job description for an MD of a company is attached for illustration.
