Hi,
Please give your views as to whether a Corporate Wellness Management programme/ Corporate Fitness Programme is existent in India and whether it would work in Indian companies. Corporate Fitness Programmes are very successful abroad and given the increasing weightage to fitness and health, the Companies are getting friendlier towards this programme. They have experienced better productivity, lower absenteeism, greater interest among the employees for their work and increasing employee loyalty.
I would appreciate if people reply to this post and participate in the poll. I need to get views and opinions about the feasibility of a corporate fitness programme in India.

I wonder why this topic could not draw attention. Fitness has the following three aspects:
1. Cognitive fitness,
2.Nuitritional fitness and
3. Alignment/physical fitness.
Does corporate sector not want to pay attention to this aspect and captalise only on the reslience of employees?

Hello Jogeshwarji,
Even I am disappointed to see no response in this thread. I and my friends suggested this topic for a project on "Enterpreneurship" and our Professor flatly said, "It won't work in India, given the attitude of Indian Companies". I wanted to prove her wrong, so started this thread.
Sure, companies like Infosys have taken this important step and introduced a 10,000 sq feet gymnasium within their premises to let their employees maintain their health. In my opinion, Companies with sufficient resources must introduce such measures that would benefit the health of their employees.

Both your professor and you are right. She is right just now And you will be right after 5 years. Because In India "hire and fire" principle is working as there is surplus man power in the market. According to 2005 estimation India is having population growth rate of only 1.4 percent. In another 5 years we are likely to to come down to 0 or minus growth rate. This apart the WHO prediction as quoted above will come to be felt. By that time wellness programmes will be a must. Moreover, replacing illness, wellness is a relatively new concept. To pick up, it will take a bit time.
The other day I was seeing in TV. that certain companies have started their stress management programmes in their own ways devoid of expert inputs. Gradually they will seek expertise too. Wellness measures certainly need expertise to be effective. I will post more information in due course.

Guess I have seen this thread a bit late. But still would want to share some insights into Corporate Wellness. My company arranges Corporate Wellness Programs for Companies. These programs deal with equipping the personnel with methods / tools to handle mental stress and for mind management, which in result help in eliminating physical ailments. We have worked with some smaller companies and they have seen benefits. The attitude of their employees change, they are more proactive and productive, better retention rate, increase in overall well being, etc.

I think Corporate Wellness programmes are really catching up in India.
Today’s working environment is such that individuals feel short changed for time and believe they are unable to work out and stay healthy as a result. ‘Wellness’, however, is not time-bound or reserved for the supermodel, athlete, or body-builder; the yogi who has renounced humanity, or the decadent narcissist who seems to have all the time in the world just to focus on “health and fitness”.
It is available to, and necessary for everyone, particularly the overworked corporate or professional. An ideal routine for a busy corporate does not need to be endless or unrealistic. Sensible combination of routines could not only prevent boredom, but minimizse time invested while still optimizing results.
