It is Consultants but not Consultant. It is Associates but not Associate. Ask him to put S at the end.

Hi Panky,
If your friend is operating as a sole trader, (in other words by himself only) then it is correct to drop the S when describing himself as:
Entrepreneur
Consultant
Professional
If he is offering a service then it is correct to use the plural, as he can offer more than one service either at the outset or later.
If, the description is associate then by definition there is more than one person (an associate) then the plural must be used.
However, if the business is registered as a Limited company then the plural must always be used (even if he is the only one). The reason for this is that you are a legal entity and the company is also a separate legal entity, therefore, more than one.
In legal terms you are on officer of the company (you are only the owner by virtue of the shareholding, which is a separate matter), and the company can appoint more officers at any time.
I hope this gives you some clarity,
Regards,
Harsh
