Dear Ms. Supriya,
It is possible to do Ph.D. on part-time basis. It is not necessary to attend classes on regular basis. In fact, I've just registered for Ph.D. on part-time basis.
If you could please indicate your email id or contact phone number, I will be in a position to help you better.

Dear Ravi Shankar
It would be highly appreciated and useful for all; if you can share the information here; instead of seeking email id or phone number for giving individual assistance.
Warm regards.

Dear Supriya,
The best place to seek information is the UGC, because they were the one's who cried a halt to long distance and off campus M.Phil./Ph.D. programmes. I attended a convocation ceremony of the Mother Teresa Women's University, in Madurai, in January 2013. There I did meet the Vice Chancellor and Members of the Council who all confirmed that they will not be enrolling people for M.Phil./Ph.D., off campus. Whatever be it please take time but find out the details as this involves time - at least 5 years to complete and the expenditure is not going to be less either. Even conservative estimates which happened in the case of my life partner, who completed her Ph.D., three years ago - was about
Rs.3.00 lakhs, in an institution aided by UGC. Private institutions can cost even more.

Hai
There are Deemed Universities allowing for the off campus
I am an approved Research guide for Bharathiyar -Coimbatore Vinayaga Mission-Salem and Bharath Uinversity -chennai
If you are registering for part time has got more value than doing on off campus
rest in next

Dear All,
I am pursuing Ph D in HR- Training and Development in final semester. Even though I registered in 2010.
As per current UGC norms, rules and regulations "UGC IS NOT ALLOWING Ph D THROUGH DISTANCE LEARNING SINCE 2009. If any university offering Ph D through distance mode and even though without Entrance Test. THE Ph D IS NOT VALID & EVEN THOUGH IN FUTURE IT MAY BE PROBLEMATIC JUST LIKE CURRENT CMJ UNIVERSITY CASE IN SHILLONG. THEY AWARDED SO MANY Ph D DEGREES WITH FULFILLING COMPLIANCE.
You can see the news in news papers.
Be very very careful.
Regards,
Amit
