hi there,

yes, people are doing free lance business development for recruitement agencies and have carved successful career out of it. But as there are two sides of coin always, such an offer come with its own potential benefits and Risks.

Risk no. 1: what is your career goal?

Do you want to continue with this arrangement through out your career or want to do it part time with your existing job? A full time freelancing activities can be considered, if you intend to start a small company with minimum investemens and team of 2-3 other free lancers. However, If you plan to join a firm later in your career for full time, i dont know how many takers willl consider your freelancing experience.

Part time activities, provides an extra opening for increasing your earnings, but it can be really taxing and your employer may not like it.

Risk no. 2: Company you are working with is not credible enough.

Try and get as much info u can get about the company before venturing in to any business deal. Try to meet promoter or atleast some other executive from the firm. etch out a clear business deal on paper, with all its terms and conditions in place and then go ahead. dont forget, in business, if it doesnt exist on paper..it doesnt exist at all.

Risk No. 3: you own expenses in marketing the products.

the least you expect from such a business deal is that it covers your business expenses. why do firms need freelancers?? so that they can reduce pressure on their cost heads and save themseleves from additional liabilities. now if u intend to take up this job, rest assured, its not going to be easy. or in other words, you will need a complete marketing strategy for it. work on your expenses, find out break even point, return on investements and then see whether you will be able to earn something out of it or not.

Potential: i m sure there are many. have seen young graduates starting a small marketing firms around these kinda arrangements. all u need is confidence that you can achieve the targets, like minded executives who can work with you and business plan that works. Take up two three such assignments for executives under you give them share for their efforts and earn profit.

you can be then you own boss, run a company, and who knows, we may hear of a emerging marketing firm in near future, taking up assignments from different firms. now if thats not lucrative enough..then what is

All the best. and do well

Hello ji,
Thank you for your valuable information and suggestion. In-fact i am also worrying with a lot of questions regarding the carrier as free lance recruiter. I have completed my M.B.A and working as a placement officer in our college itself. And now i want to be a part time free lance recruiter, as it will be helpful to my present job as well as carrier also. As i am a fresher could you please suggest me and guide me to design my carrier?
With Thanks & Regards,
