hi everybody,
I have completed my MBA in HR in 2007 only and now i am working with one company. management has given me a new dept. ie. Focus & analysis Dept. to work on and i am the only person in this dept. i am getting help from senoir management in this dept. working but still this dept. is not in its full motion of working, which leads to discouragement in me as i have good HR skills and thoughts to strenghten the Current HR dept. but i am not allowed to work directly with HR dept.In each and every thing management wants that i should get some focus from it but how?it is not possible in each and every activity.
I am really feeling helpless as what to do? sholud i continue with it or i should quit? i dont know this feeling is just because of less operational working or its because of new dept. with new working area or having nobody in my dept.?
Please help me in this regard??????
I am very confused..........

Vaishali,
In many organisations, you will face this issue. In some you will have a seperate HR function and others you may not. Look at it as a learning and take this as a challenge to develop further.
Sit with your senior mgt team to understand your KRA and KPI and then develop plans to deliver.
Never quit something on frustration. Give time you will learn and mature for future.
All the best !

Hey,
Since you are new at your current company..
you mayt want to continue what has been asked of you. At the same time ask your Manager to help you create your Development plan into any area of HR.
Before that you may want to
1) Research on what knowledge you need to acquire so that your managers trust you wnough to know about the co. and its policies and prrocedures
2) Find out what do you want to do tangibliy for the co. Show benefits
3) Highlight what are your key competencies. If you are feeling frustrated, its because your manager hasnt had the opportunity to see what you are worth....

Ken

Hi Vaishali,

I had been through ur mail. I came to an understanding that u r not happy with the current job as u have mentioned the reasons i.e the operations of the current dept (Focus & Analysis) is low and more interest towards the HR

Vaishali, presently you are in a dilemma in making a decision. You have more than one problem to solve in your mind. My suggestion is separate the problems first and then slowly sort out the problem by problem.

Problem1: New dept

Suggestion: According to your mail i understood that you are a fresher. As a fresher one should go through rigours learning process. you have mentioned you have very little interaction with HR dept. But i feel this is a department where you have to lot of mental work. Why dont you relate your HR Skills here and improve the department. How many people will get an opportunity to built a department. Use all your skills and relate them towards the work. Every one can do the job which has already been built.

Problem 2: Resistance to change

Suggestion: Unknowingly u r trying to avoid to learn new thing. I dont think u r getting deviated from your profession. HR means is not separate from anything. It is part of many things in profession as well as personal. All the subjects u have learnt relate them here. Your Organisational Behaviour will help you assess human physical & Mental behaviour, Social research methodology will help in the study for analysing, time stuldy etc relate all your subjects and go ahead your will not feel that your doing something different. lMore over i feel this will help you in future. What you already know is known to many, what you should do learn which is not known to others. "Early bird catches the prey first". Be competitive. Learn more than others you will be competitve edge to many.

My sincere feeling learn, understand in your way and execute. You will reach more than expected.

ALL THE BEST

Dear Vaishali,
If you are not satisfied with your job, its better to quit.As you had completed MBA in 2007, you are almost a fresher. So as you are interested in HR, better to try in that. But before choosing that also plan in such a way that you will not quit that, though you face any critical situations, and also try to learn from every situation, wahtever it may be.
