hi Aditya
A) can someone guide where 240 days comes from ? - It is as per the act, check out for wages act or leave on the internet you will get details for it.
B). What about maternity leave - any provisions under shops act ? Bombay ? - There is only maternity act available and it is applicable to all state. It is not state bound rather it is applicable for whole of India
C) what r timing rules ? - it is normally 48 hours a week for workers, as executives we dont keep track of timings and work long hours. Check out for factories act (applicable whole of india) or shop & establishment act pertaining to the state.
D) is travel time to a site considered as duty hours ? yes it is also considered as duty hours only

I could not understand how a Human Resources Manager can such a question. There are laws prevailing in the country to protect employees interest and welfare, which shall be adhered by companies. While considering the number of days to be given to employees, the management should take into consideration what quality of human resources they require. Employees who take reasonable rest (leave) will contribute more to the organisation. In simple terms Laws of the land and employee welfare measures are the guiding factors.

leave entitlement is mentioned in labor law. you need to take guide lines from it. leave encashment will solve your problem, never have an attitude to curtail privilege. always extend your services to look after the welfare of your worker. loss of humanitarian relation is the cause of droop in business sector. money making must keep the employees welfare too. AC school management will not know the hunger and poverty. global economic activity is dealt by born millionaire. since their grand pa did not explain the pain of hunger..

Dear Shri Bavani
Many thanx for ur time n inputs..wud like to know more about timing aspect..if a person goes for site work...and is out of station for more than 3 days we generally give him a day off..
If a person goes out of town for repairing an instrument or for collecting a sample for analysis, his major time is spent in travel, while work there is hardly 2-3 hours..
So how do we deal with travel time in such cases ? Anyone having an instrument manufacturing business - can throw more light on how they tackle such issues
