Does anyone have any estimate or rough figure on how much does it cost to convert a training material into interactive e-learning module? Rgds.

hi Eliza,
i work for Acumen Business Processes which provides e-learning solutions to some of the premier corporates in India.
being in this field, before going to cost estimation part of e-learning, it is imortant to know the complexity & depth of the module, no. of learning hours involved, no. of modules to be converted into e-learning module etc.
so if you can throw some light on these facts, i can give you some estimation.
typically, 1 hour program involves around 50-60 to 120-130 screens depending upon the level or complexity of program. the program can cost as low as Rs 200,000 (indian rupees) to as high as Rs 1,200,000.

Dear Aniruddha,
Thanks. I'm jez helping my colleague to get some estimates for Management's consideration. Anyway, these are some other info:
Scope of work for the vendor include:
1. Design 1 new graphical user interface (GUI).
2. Develop a storyboard based on material provided (currently being used in instructor led session)
3. Construct & develop the course into complete courseware based on the signed off story board.
Based on the document given, total SCOs is about 21 with estimated duration of 420 minutes.
I hope the abv is enough.

elearning can be tricky. There are two parts of eLearning

1. Content

2. eLearning content management

While content is very important, the delivery of the same can not be ignored. Hence look into them simultaneoulsly.

If you want to track the progress of the course being undertaken by a person, one may need the course material in SCORM compliance. Here we can track the course on different points - when started, how long the person took the course, completed or not etc. Macromedia can be used to provide excellent scorm compliance.

If one is not looking for just a working eLearning management , you can look into simple ASP or HTML pages running from RDBMS and an engine can be built easily.

The courses , if developed in Power point or Video files or Camtasia files too can be added.

For this kind of work

course ware may take Rs 1000 per page approximately

LMS - learning management engine could be developed for around Rs 2 laks - 5 laks depending on the requirement.

Let me know if you need more information
