ADVANTAGES OF BLOOD DONATION

1. It gives you a free mini physical examination.

Before donating blood, your hemoglobin level will be tested. If it is low, then you will not be allowed to donate blood. Besides hemoglobin, your blood pressure level and body weight will also be checked. In addition, your blood will also be examined for detecting the presence of five diseases, namely, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, Syphilis, HIV/AIDS and malaria. If you are not suffering from these diseases, only then you will be allowed to donate your blood.

2. Chances of heart disease and stokes are about 30% lesser in men who donate blood regularly.

3. Reduces blood pressure.

4. Iron overloading is also thought to increase the risk of heart diseases. Besides, iron oxidizes cholesterol, which is harmful for the arteries. Hemochromatosis is a genetic disease characterized by excess accumulation of iron in the tissues due to improper metabolism. The disease can cause damage to many organs like pancreas, adrenal glands, etc. It may also cause diabetes, liver diseases and heart diseases. So, donating blood on a regular basis would help you to regulate the level of iron in your body. Studies have shown that donating blood regularly can be beneficial for the heart and circulatory system and can reduce the risk of heart diseases, especially among young people.

5. Production of new red blood cells enhanced. Bone marrow is activated.

6. Burns calories: one unit of blood donation causes burning of about 650 calories.

7. Feeling of Euphoria - well being.

A unit of blood donated by you can benefit three persons. Blood can be separated into RBC, PLASMA and PLATELETS. All of them are life saving.

THATS WHY BLOOD DONATION IS ALSO CALLED RAKTDAAN MAHADAAN

Dear Bhaskar,

Hats off for your blood donations Wowwww 53 times ohhff.. When i seen your command below mentioned incident comes in my mind.

Last week of November 2011 one of my cousin severely suffering from some kind of blood related disease ( i can't remember the medical name of the disease) she was admitted on Ramachandra medical college, Chennai and doctors informed us that we need to do operation immediately they can provide the blood which they saved for other operation's but we need to replace the blood within schedule time or we need to arrange the blood for operation in 6 hours. My mom called me in mid night and asked me to arrange 6 units of blood immediately for operation we have only 6 hours left for operation.

I was in Africa at that time, i try to call most of my friends nobody respond my call because its around 03:00 am in India. My good time one of my friend answered my call and said its not a problem i'll let our friends know and will reach the hospital on time (its only takes 90 min to reach the hospital from my home town). I'm very happy and passed the message to mom immediately, within few minutes I'm getting a call from my friend he said ''Yeh we are drunk yesterday is it any problem to donate blood?'' I was silent few minutes on phone and asked him again try to find some guyz in our group who is willing to donate blood they should not drunk at least last 24 hours. Finally with help of my friends getting 4 units of blood and we borrow 2 units from hospital. Finally they done the operation successfully she was fine now.

Next day 6 of my friends stayed in chennai who had drunk yesterday the next day they donate i think 8 unit of blood to hospital.

What i'm trying to say, you had donate 53 times it means you saved more than at least 50 lives without seeking anything from anybody it's not a small thing sir. Again hats off for you sir.

We need to educate our peoples regarding the advantages of blood donation.

Team,

If possible circulate this message to all your employees as well as your contact persons.

Thank you for your wishes Raghu.
We started donating blood just for fun and if we donate blood (while in defence) we will get 2 days rest. To utilise the rest days we used to go and donate blood voluntarily. Now in the year beginning we are celebrating the Safety Month in our organisation and at that time one day we will fix and arrange for blood donation camp. In that one I am regularly donating the Blood. In case of any emergency also I used to go if the call is after April. You can also intimate me in case of any emergency for any donation My blood group is O+ve.

Dear Raghu / Bhaskar,
Raghu : Thanks for initiating the thread.
All should donate the blood at least twice a year.
I remember having read that the quantity wise the new blood generates within 48 hours and qualitatively it takes 3 months time.
I too used to donate the Blood till 2010, but stopped on Doctors Advice.
Bhaskar: Hats off to you.
I am closely associated with one of the popular Blood Banks socially. They are doing excellent work in Maharashtra.
Thanks & Regards,
Sudhir

Dear Surjya,
Although your question is for Raghu, I take the opportunity to answer.
We had a blood donation camp recently.
The Doctor was invited for a lecture on the same.
He addressed in front of 200 senior members.
Some one asked the same question.
He said the quantity wise 2 days.
Quality wise 3 months.
Authentically one can donate bolld after 3 months without any problem.
Any higher frequency would not matter.
Thanks & Regards,
Sudhir
