Dear Shefali,
Ms. Shweta Mishra Singh has rightly summed up the entire thing. I would like to understand from Ms. Mishra Singh if preference would be given to Non Clinical manpower over Clinical Manpower for recruitments in support areas.
I also request Ms. Mishra to let me know about any suitable opportunities in Opeartions.

As per the latest industry trends i am sharing some of the key opportunities in healthcare sector. There is a huge requirement of professionals who are specially trained in healthcare / hospital Administration.

Healthcare Administration: -

• India is gradually gathering popularity as a health tourist destination.

• Healthcare Tourism is expected to grow at an annual rate of 50% in the period 2012-2020

• Biggest driver for growth in healthcare tourism is differentiation in medical expenses as compared to the western countries.

• India ranks second in the world in the medical tourism after Thailand.

• 100 per cent foreign direct investment (FDI) is permitted for health and medical services under the automatic route.

• India’s healthcare insurance sector is also expected to grow at an annual rate of 40%.

• To meet the manpower shortages Indian government is investing 20 billion dollars over the next five years.

• Job Profiles: - Quality Assurance manager, Hospital Administrator, Corporate Health manager.

• Top Companies: - Medanta Medicity, Columbia Asia, Fortis, Sri Ganga Ram Hospitals, Apollo Hospitals, Max Healthcare.

Thanks.

It is interesting to see so much interest in the Healthcare sector. Yes, there are several opportunities in this sector and it has many domains within it.

I would recommend that MBAs, IT professionals (with programming skills in .Net, C++ and Java), plain graduates and engineers explore the Healthcare Informatics domain as currently there is an extremely large requirement for professionals not only in India but also overseas. The salaries range from Rs. 3.00 lacs and rise up to Rs. 24.00 lacs pa for freshers and those with a couple of years of experience in India alone. In the US, the salaries start from around US$37,000 and can go up to US$110,000. (Salaries largely depend on the presentation and negotiation skills of the candidate).

This professional with this qualification, basically is the interface between the hospital and its IT department/pharma/insurance/finance/medical device etc. It is a critically important role and in India there are about 27,000+ opportunities currently. Unfortunately, these courses are conducted overseas and a big ticket item.

There are no internship programs that I am aware of in India offered by companies.

Companies in India that hire these professionals are nearly all blue-chip with quite a few global names. The jobs are usually secure because both clients and employers want consistency from their service providers/employees.

The industries are Medical device companies, IT/ITeS companies, Pharmas, Hospitals, Labs, Clinics, Insurance companies, Global consulting entities etc. Admittedly, there are a very large number of start-up firms operating in this market and most pay at par with the larger companies and even offer a better growth trajectory.

We train for this sector in India and have a course for Healthcare Informatics with a certification from the US thereby enabling one to work in over a 100 countries where this certification is valid. Besides, we also help our trainees with interview opportunities.
