Variable pay structure - is a variable pay structure worth it when it comes to different functional domains?
Hi all a thought just came into my mind about the subject. almost all companies are going for variable compensation structure. perhaps the reason it came into existence was that the performers should be rewarded. but my dilemma is how hr people decide what should be the age of variable component. in other words what is the optimum mix of fixed and variable components? this structure may be working well in sales as performance measurement is easier. is a variable pay structure worth it when it comes to different functional domain? is it a good policy to have a uniform variable pay structure right from top to bottom? i put forward this as a discussion to the forum. in anticipation of responses.

Dear friends i would like to share that my company doesn t have any fixed ratio of components of salary structure. the presently used components are basic hra other allowance and conveyance. the of the components are quite arbitrarily chosen. if i want to streamline the structure of salary keeping the no. of components unchanged how will i do it i mean to say what should be the of the above said components on gross salary. kindly help me out as it is urgently needed. regards subhabrata dasgupta
Variable pay
Dear members: performance based incentives is part of salary structure in my organization. one of our employee who has joined our organization since its inception was given the appointment letter where in the variable pay was calculated 10 of basic because it was an intial stage there were lot of changes done in the salary structure to make it more competative and there after the variable pay was revised to 10 of ctc. the above change was communicated to him but now he is going back to the appointment letter and asking for the difference to be paid to him. in addition to this my organization is not doing financially too well to be able to let go of this resource. in view of the above matter would it be ideal to pay the difference and going forward for him make an exception by reducing his variable pay as per the appointment letter? looking forward for some suggestions. thank you. regards nikita

Hi all i am associated with a company for the past 6 months .20 performance variable was deducted from my salary for the last 2 months without notifying me. i checked my offer letter but there is no mention of variable pay or anything about performance pay there is only a fixed salary structure. i discussed it with hr the first month and hr told me you will get that variable after discuss with reporting manager but again deduct in last month as the other deduction in salary sleep so again i discussed with hr so hr told you will not get the variable and search for new job .so what i do and how i will get this deduct variable. regards nishikant
