Need help about Quoting CURRENT CTC

Hi friends I recently completed my PGDHRM from symbiosis through distance learning in 2007. I am looking for a good opportunity in HR and have two years of experience. The problem is that while applying for jobs in other cities i need minimum CTC of 120000 at the least, and I want to quote about 150000 to 180000 as my expected CTC, but the employers usually say that they calculate CTC based on my current CTC which is 66000 + PF may come upto 74000 approx, they sometimes hesitate stating that your current CTC is this much and ur demanding double, more than that. How to deal with this situation. I want the employer to judge me on basis of qualifications and experience and not on my current CTC , as here in my current job its a different thing, hence how do I convince him that I am worth the CTC which I demand. Also since I need to shift to another city it would require me a substantial increase rather than what I am drawing today.

ALL SENIOR MEMBERS PLEASE ADVISE.

Hi Ravi,
I believe that the companies do not bother to offer the CTC double or triple than what you are earning now but they do bother that how much you can justify to the job for which they are selecting you. If you are ale to give optimum justification to the positions you are looking, companies will definitly offer you good CTC irrespective what you are earning. It clearly conveys that you need to improve your skills in order to get good CTC.

Hi Ravi,

Its a general trend that upto 40% hike is given while switching job but ofcourse nothing is hard and fast. It all depends on your own ability to negotiate and sell yourself in the job market. It is only you who has to describe your qualities to clinch the better deal of salary. You current CTC is whatever but that is considering yourself as a Non MBA. Now you are an MBA so you have to put in the view that earlier you were non MBA and therefore you were getting such less. But now that you are an MBA that too with so and so years of experience you deserve much more than what a fresh MBA should be offered. If a fresh MBA is inducted it will take time to train him/her and moreover company has to spend on his/her training but you are already trained and you may be put immediately on the board as soon as you are inducted. There is no need to spend time and money on your training so you are the better one than any other fresh MBA

So go ahead dear and put your views strongly.

Best of Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

hi Ravi,
Dont lose hope.. it all depends on the company that your applying for and also the field in which you have experince, am not aware of the other fields. but in IT, its no big deal to provide double the current CTC,
All you need to be firm in your decision before moving to the company. negotiate till your satisfied, never compromise on your salary,
Since you ahve 2 yrs exp, you need not worry, these days even freshers without MBA also get more than 1.2 LPA.
So all the best for your future ...

Dear Ravi,
As said by others, all are very true..
Only thing you have to keep is High Morale, Positive aspects and be confident always..
Definitely you will get the success..
Moreover you may convince Interviewer that you joined your 1st assignment because that time you were in a learning stage.. and even not holding MBA degree..
But now you have experience along with MBA degree..
Its a plus point for you..
Wish You all the best..

Amit Seth.

Shreyas,
thats exactly what Ravi is feeling about his salary that what hes getting is very less. And yes, for your information, the consultancies provide around 6-7000 per month to the recruiters" freshers". which is much much less than 1.2 LPA.

Ravi baba,
Your gimmicks are typical....
You must analyse the following...
Your corrent CTC is based on market valuse for your current job profile and job description.
Your next opportunity shall be compared with your existing job size in terms of its dimentions and level of job.
You must take into consideration the Business/Industry where salaries are either high end or low end your HR jobs. In this size of industry also matter which determined employers capacity to pay.
You cannot randamly ask for X amount or Y amount as CTC...
Be fair with your qualification and capabilities because if you are underpaid or overpaid you will be in trouble in both the cases. You have explain and justify your excepted salary to your perspective employer by market price for this job not on the basis of your own salary. Because your salary is not benchmark to negotiate.
