How do you get data to conduct salary benchmarking for top level management?
Can we get data of salaries of directors in top companies for the last two years to do a comparison study and trend?
Which website can help us with this data?

As a company you will not be able to get that data. You need to hire a Third Party Consultant to get such data.

Hi!

It is not correct to say that as a company "you will not be able to get that data", and that you will "need a third party consultant to get such data".

A third party consultant will only facilitate and enhance your acquisition of market data, esp if they already have them in their files, e.g. if your company is in Manila and you need market data, you can come to me and I can sell you fast the latest multi-industry survey there, because I have them. Of course, if you try to do the survey yourself, chances are your comparators will not share their data with you because you are their competitor not only in the business, but also for talent acquisition.

Anywhere in the world, a company can get the data thru the following:

1. By participating in the survey being conducted by a known business organization in your country, like the big multinational consulting companies, e.g. Hay, Hewitt, Towers Watson, Mercer.

2. By buying a copy of the survey result prepared by any of the above, or by an independent consultant;

3. By doing the survey yourself on your target comparators in the industry where you belong.

Best regards.

Dear Ed,
I would like to highlight that views presented by Sanjeev is somewhere right. In India for most of the companies it is very difficult to get such data from other companies on salary benchmarking. Either there is no response or very poor and irrelevant feedback as expected.
There are consultant like Hay, Mercer etc but most of the companies could not afford them merely for conducting such survey. The reply by Sanjeev is taking into consideration of middle and small level companies for such surveys.
@ Sanjeev : I hope you were trying to convey the same in brief in your answer.

Thank you Sacheen. But would you be able to guide me on the best way to go about this. I am looking more at the Hospitality Industry. To study the salary trend in the last two years for top level mgmt.

If you are looking for hospitality sector, there are various categories in hospitality also and pay structure may vary from categories of hotels and their gradation.
e.g If you are working with Business hotel and you are doing survey for luxury hotels than you may find a huge difference in salaries structure.
Again it matters on city grade and according to that you have to fix salary structures.
Kindly let me know if you required more information.

One such survey is done by Employers Federation of India on a national level
The survey report is a paid document.
You can get it from them.
If you wish, send me a message and i will put you in touch with the person concerned in their office.
Ofcourse, the survey is based on companies who participated, but is a very good document for benchmarking

But I don't know of they have for hotels industry as they do most of their work in manufacturing sector.
For hotel, talk to fhrai or ahar (sorry I don't have contact number, you need to search on net). If they both can't help, then I will put you in touch with some consultants who will be able to help you.
Once upon a time it was my area of specialisation......
