Dear Seniors,

I am in a fix of how should i take things forward. I have 8yrs of experience majorly in admin. I have recently joined this firm(4months back) as an administrator, but I am not fine with the job profile and the environment. As, I had left my previous organization for better prospects(It was a big organization and my job profile was restricted,I wanted to learn)

Basically, this is a small architectural firm with only 24 employees. I have 3staffs to work under me (2office boys and a receptionist) in admin. But all of them make me feel that I work under them. There were times when all of them have raised voice on me may be cause I am younger than them (I am just 24) and also cause they are working since the company has established.

There is no specific job profile I have been given since I have joined. The management(Owners-A husband and wife) had hired me to maintain or rather make discipline in the office. When asked about the profile, I was told that I will have to take initiative and work on my own. I was surprised to know that but thought may be I will have to struggle till I settle down. They did not have any hr policies, so I took initiative worked upon it and proposed a set of policies with the help of Cite hr site but it was in vain. They had a complain that the staff's were never on time so I started noting timings and suggested that we put late marks. I would make an excel sheet and submit it every week. Even that was in vain. I maintained records of AMC, Bills, Staffs details, scheduled interviews, handled mails, make offer, experience letters etc. but never was appreciated for my work. So, I started doing tasks they delegate me to do. In 4months I have been only getting their office cabinets cleaned, filings done(approximately 1500) all alone. If I delegate any work to the admin staff they would back answer me & literally refuse doing it. When I took it to my boss about it she wouldn't believe. At times they have even lied in front of the boss saying something else to me and totally different to her.

I can understand that its difficult for them to accept that they have to work under a girl younger than them. But, I have never made them feel that I am senior to them infact it has always been vice a versa. Now the scenario is that, my boss taunts me every second day that I am not good at management and maintenance. I am not organized and so on. It hurts cause I have always been praised for my work in all my professional career till now. I am not even given my appointment letter till now.(The boss says she will give tomorrow since the 1st day I have joined, I thought she was organized). She never liked me talking to the staffs(I thought admin and hr was always to hear the staff's grief, they have set cameras all over so that the staffs di bit chat and only do work, I was myself not ok with as as I myself believe in enjoying my job rather than doing it for the sake of doing & at the end of the day it is the performance that matters which I found they delivered)The only thing that has kept everyone going is the package the company offered. But now I see many staff's putting down their papers. I have got to know from the entire staff's that they have cried blood tears as both are rude and make them work like slaves. They are never satisfied and would always have complaints. The staffs work till 9 and 12 pm at times and have not got any OT's or even breakfast or dinner.

Now I have made up my mind to give up this job, its better to leave If my bosses & me both are not happy with each other. Also, I can't compromise with my self respect listening things when it's not my mistake at all. I have understood that I can change my pattern of work but I can change people's attitude.

My question now is do I need to serve any notice period?I have not got appointment letter, I was just sent an offer letter before joining through mail which I dint signed as I never got a hard copy neither replied the mail. But, my name is mentioned in their attendance register(that's the only proof of me working). Should I be mentioning this 4months experience in my Resume or should I show it as a gap before I join somewhere else (which might affect my Resume but I am still doubtful would it seem good if I mention it, that I am leaving a firm in such a little span of time?)

Also, I am attaching my resume, for any suggestions and improvement.

Pls suggest. I will be thankful.

Regards,

Rashi Shinde.

Dear Rashi,

Your problems arose because your employers have not made your proper job description. Your other problem is that you have worked in big company where systems and process are little bit defined. In your current job nothing is defined.

Anyway what you have said is your side of story. Unless we know from other side also, it would be not be possible to give accurate suggestions.

If we take what you have written at its face value then let me say that your employers lack leadership qualities as well. If late coming is the problem in their company then they should have handled this on their own and not waited for Rashi to join and solve this problem.

However, this is the bane of small enterprises and not just in your company. Even if you would have joined some other company, more or less you would have faced same problems.

About your CV: - You have written details of your current job and then the academic credentials. Then further your career details continue. You better put these academic credentials at the end. Secondly, your entire CV is numberless. I mean to say wherever possible you should include the numbers, what was increased or what was decreased. You may also say "handled _____ calls per day".

Be cautious in your next job to ask for the Job Description.

Ok...

Thanks a ton Mr. Dinesh... I agree to whatever you have suggested. Also, have made the changes in my CV as per your advice.
I am planning to quit this job soon, but I am in a dilemma as I haven't yet found any other job yet so I might have to sit jobless for some days, or even months... Also even if I get a call for interview the interview will have 2opinions either that I am hopping job for monetary reasons or may be cause I was incapable in performing my duties well during my probation. If at all I don't mention this experience in my CV, it will show as if I was jobless for 4months.
I would want to genuinely reveal the actual reason but not sure if it will be convincing enough for the interviewer to believe.
I will surely look into the job description in detail before joining.
Thanks a ton again I really appreciate for your response.

Rashi,
You clearly don't have the required executive support in the organization. While many companies believe you should 'fight' for it, professionally managed companies try to support it. At the same time, you have also seen that your proposed strategy didn't go well in the organization. So you might to change your management style and learn from this experience.
Technicalities apart, I would recommend an aggressive search. Whether you discount the current job or not, you will have to stay truthful and clear.

Hi Rashi,
It is a common affair in small firms in many industries. You should do a background verification of companies. Many sites available nowadays.Few suggestions:
1. Be fair and clear in all your communication to your future employer. Keep a copy of the email of offer and bank statement in absent of salary slip as a proof of your job. Why show unemployment when you did your best as per your mail in your current job?
2. Never bad mouth your current employer. This world is a very small place. You can always give technical reasons but never say you left because of your employer issues. As Divekar ji rightly said, people do not know the other side story and may find you incapable to take challenge and ambiguity.
3. Try and get a job while you are on job to avoid depression.
