Hi, i would like to find out what inconvenience allowances cover. Recently, some colleagues of mine and i have been deployed in Lesotho on a project basis for a couple of years and due to return to our respective homes sometime next year. We were told to keep our places in our original places of employment (Botswana) so we have and these are fully furnished. We receive an inconvenience allowance of R8000-00 to cover our rent, utilities, mobile phone bills, meals and now recently we\'ve been informed that we have to provide our own furniture. Is that right considering we have our own furniture and came here on the understanding that we would be provided with basic accommodation needs? We are basically being forced to buy furniture that we don\'t want but have no option as we can\'t stay in empty houses. Please inform me of exactly what an inconvenience/site allowance is supposed to cover.

It all depends on the policies of the employer. Inconvenience or dislocation allowance is broad term and the employer can use the term for any other expenses which you may incur unless it is not specifically written in your deputation order.
