Is Sevice Tax a State Matter of Cetral matter..

Hello everybody,

I would like to know whether Service Tax is a state subject of Center subject?

I mean if a company is having offices / branches in more than one states does it require service tax number in each state separately?? or only one Centralised service tax number is sufficient?

Please let me know ur views.

You need to have separate REgn Numbers. At present, Service Tax is handled by Central Excise Dept.

THis is a central govt matter and administered by Service tax department.

you may go for centralised registration by compliying certain requirements, or other option is to go for registration for each location.
