Re: Dress code
just wanted to share my experience.

well i too felt the same initially that people should dress conservatively however by coincidence i was a witness to several females being interviewed for the position of merchandisers/ fashion designers etc.

all of them were dressed in outlandish clothes as per my perspective yet i latyer found out that this was perfectly OK..

Re: Dress code
I would go with what Preeti says... Better be comfortable in what you wear and based on the position and job applied for. I Would recommend a simple saree but neatly pressed and which gives you a gentle, pleasant, happy, energetic, confident look.

For corporates with western and Europeon culture of work, you can even tie your hair loose, leave it freely with a modern attire / costume, but not to be too stylish and revealing.

Hope this helps you.

Regards,
Livingston.

Re: Dress code
Hi Pratibha,
I am working as an HR executive in an ad agency. From the interviews that I have taken it doesn't make much of a difference as to what you wear as long as you present yourself well. If you are decently dressed, fair enough.
But yes, it's true wearing blazers and heavy clad suits for the first interview at the entry level kind of freaks out the interviewer because it gives us the impression that the candidate still lives in the old times and may not be updated with business trends.
In truth, the dress code depends on the type of company you are going in for the interview. If it's manufacturing, salwar kameez would be fine because of the fear of the dangers of loose clothing on the shop floor. So their mindset may be as such. If it's a services industry like banking or other types of customer service, sarees or ladies' type shirts and parallels can be options.
Some people before the interview, may one or two days back visit the company and observe the people and atmosphere from outside. If possible you can try it out.

Regards,

Manoj

Re: Dress code
Dear Prathibha,

This is Deepak, working as a HR Professional for last 14 years.

I am glad that you have sighted the basic question..... as lot of prospective candidates ted to over see.

I would advise you to wear clothes which suits your personality and
which makes you look & feel confident also pls note these should make you comfotable too.

ensure you have the right accessories with them. ( Avoid bold / goody )

Hope this will help you to arrive at some decision.

Re: Dress code
Hi Pratibha,

One can wear any formal clothes which depends on industry type also. My cousin is working with radio mirchi radio fm channel. she went for interview wearing 3/4 jeans with short t-shirt n yes funky jewerelly too. Even i went for interview in khana khazana for Zee tv every one was there in funky clothes. But at same time if you are not going for interview in entertainment but obvious one should stick to strict formal attire. I think in todays world females can wear formal trouser with formal shirt and formal shoe.

I hope my suggestion is helpful.

Regards,

Preeti.

Re: Dress code
Hi Pratibha

As far as the dress code for interviews goes- Cotton salwar kameez or Sari would be fine

We do not have a defined dress code quote - unquote over here.

YOu can even wear trousers with a formal shirt or blazers too

But yes you should avoid shimmer and very dark colours

Try keeping it light and suttle and no overly done make up either (lest you are going for an airhostess interview )

You can pretty well define the same in your own way too
