HI FOLKS,
I WAS JUST THINKING ABOUT THE LOTS OF PREPARATION WE DO BEFORE OUR INTERVIEWS BUT WHAT DO WE DO AFTER THAT?????
FOLLOW UP WITH ANOTE OF THANKS

ONCE WE ARE THROUGH WITH OUR INTERVIEW, WE SHOULD ALWAYS FOLLOW UP WITH THE COMPANY. FEW THINGS I THINK WE ALL SHOULD CONSIDER ARE:
1. WE SHOULD REMEMBER THE NAME OF EACH AND EVERY PERSON WE MEET IN THE COMPANY WE HAD THE INTERVIEW WITH, EVEVN THE RECEPTIONIST.
2. WE SHOULD GIVE A NOTE OF THANKS IN WRITTEN TO THE COMPANY.
3. WE COULD EITHER WRITE A MAIL ALSO.
4. IF NOT ALL THESE THEN ATLEAST WE SHOULD CALL AND SAY THANKS.
5. NEVER USE NEGATIVE WORDS OR UNNECESSARY DETAILS OF ANYTHING IN THE LETTER.
6. THE WORDS SHOULD SHOW RESPECT TOWARDS THE COMPANY AND ITS PEOPLE AND THE ENTHUSIASM YOU STILL HAVE TO WORK THEIR EVEN AFTER THE INTERVIEW.
WITH ALL THESE YOU FAIRLY INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF SELECTION AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS AMONG THE OTHER CANDIDATES.
SO CONSIDER IT WHEN U NEXTTIME GIVE ANY INTERVIEW.

Hi Deepali,
Indeed the suggestions that you've put across are nice. But I do foresee some practical problem in the process. Thought of sharing my viewpoints with you.
At the first place, I strongly feel that any candidate should utilise the oppurtunity to the fullest for whatever impact he / she can make and this can be done on the same day of the interview. The candidate can express his thanks then and then once the interview is over. A follow-up thanksgiving may invite trouble for a candidate.
Secondly, in big companies, where in an interview process, many interviewers and HR people are involved, to whom the mail should be addressed to. This might lead to confusion. I know of cases where interview being taken by different people and post-interview activities being done are different set of people.
My intention is not to disregard the suggestions but to expose some practical problems that might come up.

HI CHANDRIL,
I DUN TOTALLY DENY YOU. BUT PROBABLY I AM THINKING FROM A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE.
AS U SAID IT MAY INVITE TROUBLE, SO IT MAY START A POSITIVE CONVERSATION AMONG THE INTERVIEWEES ALSO. NOW I AM NOT TALKING OF TOTALY GONE CASES, BT WHERE U EXPECT ..
IT MAY ALSO POP UP THE SECOND CHANCE ALSO.
WE CAN ALWAYS QUOTE THE BEST PART OF THE INTERVIEW AND THE HIT PART.ETC. .
SO I WANT TO SAY IT MAY PROVE FRUITFUL SOMETIMES OR CLICK THE INTERVIEWEE. AT LEAST IT WILL CLICK TO ME , IF I WERE A RECRUITER..
WHAT DO U SAY???

Hi Deepali,
I agree with you that if I'm a recruiter and I receive such kind of a thanksgiving mail from a candidate, it speaks of the generous nature / the personality of the candidate. But in my opinion, by this gesture, the chance of getting shortlisted / selected hardly gets impacted.
I appreciate that this forum has given me a chance to engage in a constructive debate.

hi chandril,
As you can see today most of the company have a vision of satisfying their customers. So one thing that is very necessary is rapport building, interpersonal skills, follow ups.
we as HR believe in continuous follow ups with the internal customers as well as external customers. So while we come across the candidate who also believes in following up for small things.don't you it could be one of his strength which could prove beneficial for him and the company in the short and long run????
giving you a personal example, this is one of a good reason for having my curent job!!!
what do you say next?????

Hi Deepali,
At the first place, if we talk about customers, no doubt we have to do n number of follow ups as required. Coming to internal customers, again, we've no choice but for rapport building as well as for HR service, we'll do n times follow up. For External customers, if we look at potential candidates, till interview being done, follow up is justified. After the interview, if the candidate follows up regarding the status of the interview, we need to be a bit cautious and diplomatic in addressing the issue.
HR should always be considerate and responsive in these cases, but in my view, if a candidate follows up with HR, I do not disagree that it is a good gesture but that doesn't necessarily signify that a candidate's strength and for that matter, its very difficult to map with company's short or long term goal.
Any pointers to this are welcome.

hai deepali
very useful information for the learners. but i do have a doubt. if there is a change in address or a change in the biodata, etc, should this be forwarded directly to the hr manager who had taken the interview in person or else would it be better to mail them?

hi animisha,
well this depends on your selection . if you are selected then you can always tell the person who took your interview or you can ask the recruiter over there.
now if you are not selected then you need not tell them about this, but yes you should always take care that your contact no. and e.mail should be correct and updated, coz 98% employers communicate through these.
all d best,
