The buddha and the abuse (how to respond to others negative comments)
Ia tale is told about the buddha gautama 563483bc the indian prince and spiritual leader whose teachings founded buddhism. this short story illustrates that every one of us has the choice whether or not to take personal offence from another person s behaviour. it is said that on an occasion when the buddha was teaching a group of people he found himself on the receiving end of a fierce outburst of abuse from a bystander who was for some reason very angry. the buddha listened patiently while the stranger vented his rage and then the buddha said to the group and to the stranger "if someone gives a gift to another person who then chooses to decline it tell me who would then own the gift? the giver or the person who refuses to accept the gift?" "the giver" said the group after a little thought. "any fool can see that" added the angry stranger. "then it follows does it not" said the buddha "whenever a person tries to abuse us or to unload their anger on us we can each choose to decline or to accept the abuse; whether to make it ours or not. by our personal response to the abuse from another we can choose who owns and keeps the bad feelings."/i its wise to be at cool and silent at times regards shijit.
Resource utilisation - learn from buddha....
: a key facator which add value to performance is complete utilisation of resources. flg is a powerful illustration. i read this story on buddha and his principle of using the available resources to the fullest extent possible. sure you will find it to be interesting buddha one day was on deep thought about the wordly activities and the ways of instilling goodness in human. the following is the text of conversation between him and his disciple. one of his disciples approached him and said humbly " oh my teacher while you are so much concerned about the world and others why don t you look in to the welfare and needs of your own disciples also." budhha : tell me how i can help you" disciple : "master my attire is worn out and is beyond the decency to wear the same. can i get a new one please." buddha found the robe indeed was in a bad condition which needed replacement. he asked the store keeper to give the disciple a new robe to wear on. the disciple thanked buddha and retired to his room. though he met his disciple s requirement buddha was not all that contended on his decision. he realised he missed out some point. a while after he realised what he should have asked the disciple . he went to his disciple s place and asked him "is your new attire comfortable? do you need anything more ?" disciple : "thank you my master. the attire is indeed very comfortable. i need nothing more" buddha : "having got the new one what did you do with your old attire?" disciple : "i am using it as my bed spread" buddha "then.. hope you have disposed off your old bed spread" disciple " no.. no.. master. i am using my old bedspread as my window curtain" buddha " what about your old curtain?" disciple "being used to handle hot utensils in the kitchen" buddha : "oh.. i see.. can you tell me what did they do with the old cloth they used in kitchen" disciple : "they are being used to wash the floor." buddha " " then the old rug being used to wash the floor disciple " master since they were torn off so much we could not find any better use but to use as a twig in the oil lamp which is right now lit in your study room in and left for his // if not to this degree of utilisation can we atleast attempt to find the best use of all our resources at home and at office ..?? ??
Buddha’s advice to calm a disturbed mind
Once buddha was walking from one town to another town with a few of his followers.. this was in the initial days. while they were traveling they happened to pass a lake. they stopped there and buddha told one of his disciples i am thirsty. do get me some water from that lake there. the disciple walked up to the lake. when he reached it he noticed that right at that moment a bullock cart started crossing through the lake. as a result the water became very muddy very turbid. the disciple thought how can i give this muddy water to buddha to drink so he came back and told buddha the water in there is very muddy. i dont think it is fit to drink. after about half an hour again buddha asked the same disciple to go back to the lake and get him some water to drink. the disciple obediently went back to the lake. this time too he found that the lake was muddy. he returned and informed buddha about the same. after sometime again buddha asked the same disciple to go back. the disciple reached the lake to find the lake absolutely clean and clear with pure water in it. the mud had settled down and the water above it looked fit to be had. so he collected some water in a pot and brought it to buddha. buddha looked at the water and then he looked up at the disciple and said see what you did to make the water clean. you let it be. and the mud settled down on its own and you got clear water. your mind is also like that when it is disturbed just let it be. give it a little time. it will settle down on its own. you dont have to put in any effort to calm it down. it will happen. it is effortless.
Dealing with insult
The buddha explained how to handle insult and maintain compassion. one day buddha was walking through a village. a very angry and rude young man came up and began insulting him. "you have no right teaching others" he shouted. "you are as stupid as everyone else. you are nothing but a fake." buddha was not upset by these insults. instead he asked the young man "tell me if you buy a gift for someone and that person does not take it to whom does the gift belong?" the man was surprised to be asked such a strange question and answered "it would belong to me because i bought the gift." the buddha smiled and said "that is correct. and it is exactly the same with your anger. if you become angry with me and i do not get insulted then the anger falls back on you. you are then the only one who becomes unhappy not me. all you have done is hurt yourself." "if you want to stop hurting yourself you must get rid of your anger and become loving instead. when you hate others you yourself become unhappy. but when you love others everyone is happy." the young man listened closely to these wise words of the buddha. "you are right o enlightened one "he said. "please teach me the path of love. i wish to become your follower." the buddha answered kindly "of course. i teach anyone who truly wants to learn. come with me." hi friends i loved this post a lot and thought of sharing it with you all. "holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.?? so i hope all the hot tempered will control their anger and restrain from causing permanent damage. stay cool. keep smiling always.
