Human resource head named Disney president Aug. 19, 2006 at 12:27AM
Meg Gilbert Crofton, a 27-year Walt Disney Co. employee, has been
promoted from human resources director to president of Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla.
Crofton, 52, has held key positions in personnel, sales and
operations during her Disney career, the South Florida Sun Sentinel
reported. Though she has represented 99,000 Disney employees worldwide, she has little name recognition inside or outside the company. Crofton spent most of the last four years in California, Hong Kong, Paris and Tokyo while living in Winter Park, Fla.
Al Weiss, who heads Disney's worldwide properties, called Crofton
the "obvious choice."
"I can think of no one more qualified, and I am very excited that
she has this opportunity to lead Walt Disney World," said Weiss.
Crofton attended Rollins College in Winter Park before earning a
bachelor's degree in marketing and a master's in business administration
from Florida State University.
She is the fourth executive -- and the first woman -- to head
Disney World since it opened in 1971. |
