Human resource head named Disney president Aug. 19, 2006 at 12:27AM

Meg Gilbert Crofton, a 27-year Walt Disney Co. employee, has been
promoted from human resources director to president of Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla.

Crofton, 52, has held key positions in personnel, sales and
operations during her Disney career, the South Florida Sun Sentinel
reported. Though she has represented 99,000 Disney employees worldwide, she has little name recognition inside or outside the company. Crofton spent most of the last four years in California, Hong Kong, Paris and Tokyo while living in Winter Park, Fla.

Al Weiss, who heads Disney's worldwide properties, called Crofton
the "obvious choice."

"I can think of no one more qualified, and I am very excited that
she has this opportunity to lead Walt Disney World," said Weiss.

Crofton attended Rollins College in Winter Park before earning a
bachelor's degree in marketing and a master's in business administration
from Florida State University.

She is the fourth executive -- and the first woman -- to head
Disney World since it opened in 1971.

Re: HR heads become CEOs and business Leaders
Its not the matter of HR becoming a CEO or any other person from marketing or finance line for that matter. It merely depends upon the capability to handle a particular function and get productivity for the company. Its a matter of thinking laterally and trying to grow in a way which is again going to be an amalgamation of what the general notion is and how well a person can think out of the box. When it comes to a senior position like CEO. I feel not just people skill is important but the person has to be a complete package. As long as you are able to generate profitability to your firm, nothing like it.
