Hello Friends, I am working in a manufacturing company where attendance is 100% linked with the salary/wages. Since we are now starting an IT company, I would like to know whether attendance is generally linked to salaries in IT companies or not. I heard that in IT companies, salaries are released on 25th of every month or max. on 30th and there is no linkage with attendance. Is that possible?

Dear Kalpana,
Attendance is a must part for the salary calculation in IT. But it would depend on the business model and nature of the IT operations. Research based companies such as Google and Adobe have flexi-tme as a benefit to the employee. Maintenance based companies may require the employees to be live 24/7 , hence offer work from home facility.
Development based companies do have a log-in and a log-out time. But the productivity remains depended on the work volume delivered. It is often independent of time as they stretch endlessly to complete projects.
Please do design the policy based on the nature of business within the bandwidth of the company.
Please revert if you wish to know more.

Thank you (Cite Contribution) for a succint reply.
Yes, we do understand the typical requirements and have offered flexi timings along with work from home policy. Being a start up company, unfortunately, we still do not have a lan based/automatic system for monitoring/mining log-in/log-out data of every individual, hence have introduced thumb impression based attendance system, to which there is an obvious resistance - they had no controls for past six months!
I guess we are on the right path, still if I need something, will definitely contact you. Thanks so much for the offer.

Dear Kalpana,
I can understand the infrastructural limitations during initial phase. I am sure you will branch out to VPN and other facilities. Here's my suggestion, it may sound very basic, but it is failsafe. Do get a monthly absenteeism/leave sheet filled by each manager for their respective teams. This would help you to tally the Shift allowances or variables form every month.
This is purely administrative. Yet, it will help you to resolve any concern towards non-payment of such benefits to the employees.
Hope this helps.
