See, each industry type has different HR processes. First job for you would be identify what are different HR processes you have. You have to document all these process first. Draw ERD flow chart (any fresh MBA grad will help you). Find out what are different intercating processes.There would some process which are linked to other department (like salary ,reimbursemnt etc linked to finance-->we call them as external link) or within department (Performance linked to Training needs, or HRIS linked to Leave Managemnt System / Appraisal / Time Management --> we call them internal links).
Once you have these, then you can decide what you want to automate and what not. You will obviously look for those process automation which will save your time,cost and increase efficiency and effeciveness. And you
will not go for automation for those processes which are not that important (mission critical or not) and can be handled manually(rather automation will add up unnecessary load to your existing staff). This is called stage of feasibilty study.
I don't think you are looking for big ERP vendor (unless you have 5000 employee strength ) as they charge huge money starting from 1.7 Cr (peoplesoft) to SAP/ORACLE (3-4Cr).
There would be lot of free software on HRIS, Attendance,Training, PMS,Payroll etc. But this will not solve your problem as you can hardly
take any adhoc reports or modify those software to suit your shop-floor processes.
Lot of HR professional jumps directly into HRIS or automation before doing their process documentation. The result: HR automation fails severly. You might have seen ERP failure (mostly HR) in many reknowned organisation. I can write 20 big indian companies where
ERP-HR failed severly.
