Hello,

Are you upset?

There is no law against making "Hse Keeping" as a part of HR work.

Everyone knows it is NOT classically HR activity that you have learnt at the institute.

But, for the organization to function smoothly, efficiently and systematically the "powers that be" adopt a format as to what activities to be included in each department configuration. In engineering industry it is normally a part of Admin work. In hospitality industry it is an independent and important department! In some company as yours it may have been included in your department as a part of Admin work!!

And in any case as HR you are required to only make "Hse Keeping" happen and NOT do it yurself! Since you are a Manager, you are bound to get it done through menial staff but ENSURE that it is done well and proper!

I do not think you are upset, but if you are, there is NO reason to be upset. All work is important to the organization!

Dear Naveen
Your posting of such a question itself is telling that you dont seem to be happy top have this thing on your to do's. You need to have clearly defined Job description of yours. and do discuss it with your reporting senior. In engineering comapnies its collated under "hr & ADMIN" work and the same can be your case....get clarity on that. But obviously there is a seperate staff for the same. You just need to supervise it and take necessary actions. Gradually train any sub ordinate of yours to take on this supervisory task as well. so now you need to interfare only in serious issues. DO the same with all non value adding tasks and concentrate on core HR work.
Hope it clarifies your need.

dear friend nothing is impossible in this world, When Hr dept. think some thing to do, nobody can stop this deprtment, you need only make it intrusting, plan some inter dept. competetion, 5s rewards. think if you put one supervisor it will cost 10000 - 15000 but reward cost may be so less. Don't take load on your mind but change everybody mind. No supervisor required only attitude required for it.
Thanks & regards

Hello, As a manager you should" Know the way, goes the way, make the way" I would suggest you should take this as an opportunity to demonstrate your leadership. You may form a cross functional team that involves the lower middle level management members, meet periodically, establish standards of house keeping, create a platform for sharing experience, use those feed backs to train the cleaning agency supervisor, conduct periodical cross audits etc. This process can be extended beyond the corss functional team by participating down the level team members. Your role can be a facilitator in this process and I am sure you will achieve excellent result

Greetings,

As shared by Samvedan , you may have not been formally trained in House keeping during MBA. But certain areas such TQM, Kaizen and 5S would include housekeeping. The deliverable of HR remains in running the project from the strategic view and remain a think tank to these OD events.

You may be on the top of such programs knowing how to trouble shoot when an escalation crops . You do not run them, rather be a custodian to Admin to ensure the certification is completed. More importantly, House keeping might at certain times be connected to the safety and the well being of the employees, such as on a shop floor . That's the point where House Keeping would be a part of HR purview

Please do find the links with detailed discussions and document on the roles of the HR Department.

Hi naveen,
Housekeeping, Security these are all Administration activity or it comes under Admin section. Most of the big companies have sepearte Admin department which takes care of all Housekeeping , Secrity , Gardening activities.
But in some companies Hr department is given an added Admin responsibiltiy.

Dear
Housekeeping is part of Admin Department and ensure the houseekping due to environment of the organization. Its the part of HR/Admin Department to ensure and provide well working condition to their employees.
Mr. Samvedan
I read your comments but according to Factories Act 1934 housekeeping is part of Law and you have to ensure that all working condition should in standarized.

Hello,
Thanks for pointing out.
If you see the context in which I had responded, the meaning I wished to convey was there is no law (that says that Hse Keeping is a part of HR function). The words in bracket have not been conveyed as was necessary. My inadequacy. Inconvenience caused is regretted.
