* publish articles with photographs, if any employee is participating in the district / state / national level sports, games, competitions. this will also inspire the new employees to participate.

A company's internal magazine should significantly add to the Knowledge Management of that organization. Company News magazines circulation is not confined to employees of the company; it’s read by competitors, partners, visitors, etc. Therefore the designers should see to it that it is the company’s professional statement, in terms of look and content. Internally, it should captivate the interests for all strata of employees. I have seen company journals that are monotonous compilations of companies projects and events. While it should give a first - hand information of all major initiatives of the company, these should not be too much "official". Limit the CEO’s address to the firswt issue. Instead, a kind of “From the Editor’ Desk” would be a welcome idea. That “short & sweet” note could discuss an issue/event, that is current or could give a curtain raiser for an interesting article appearing in the issue.

Employees and their family members' achievements like good academic performance or creative accomplishments preferably with accompanying photographs should find a place.

A good balance of visual and textual presentations should be maintained. Due consideration should be given to page lay outs. I have come across a magazine in which all the pictures are of same size.

Contents should add seasonal topics. For example, exam season’s issue could carry articles on managing tension and tips to score better; vacation season issue could publish travel tips, leisure destination, etc.

Factual errors, inaccuracies in figures, dates, names, etc. as well as grammatical and spelling errors should be totally avoided. Too much projection of the senior management should also be avoided.

Regular columns by Techies on company’s standard desktop products - word processor, spreadsheet, e-mil,etc. - Internet tips like say “URL of the Month”, Info. Security awareness, would be a great attraction and help for the ordinary employees.

Since you are at the stage of launching the mag, you can think of regular columns to highlight one business unit in every issue like “Our Recruitment Department” , “Our Procurement Section”, etc. This gives the company employees a fairly good idea how other divisions/departments/sections are functioning and who are the key players.

Company Magazine is a good vehicle for communicating company policy statements/ changes, management intents, etc. However, remember it’s not a management weapon but an employee’s tool.

Good Luck!

Dear Waleed,
You can also add the profile of one of the oldest employees of the organisation, along with a picture of the family.
About hobbies of a colleague, like photography along with a photograph taken by the colleague..
A list of the new joinees to the organisation mentioning their names, department and location.
Best of luck with the magazine. :D

hi,
it is a good idea to have an inhouse journal to keep the employees informed about the happenings in the company across functions & regions.
you can segment it in terms of
learnings
pride
fun
earning
4 main things affecting the employees of any orgn across the world.
you can spruce it up further to add value by adding
star forecast
recipies by employees
achievements by employees kin in academics & sports etc;
notable social activities of your employees for the welfare of society &
so on & so forth.

My Dear Seniors,

I am working with a company in U.A.E and I m really impressed about your all ideas, recently my company also announced the company own magazine.

Please read the below e mail which I received few days ago from my HR manager and you please give me the idea of choosing the name of Company Magazine.

I would really appreciate if some body read this e mail today and reply me quickly and help me out.

Good morning All,

In order to strengthen the communication among the NSCC team, we are initiating an internal corporate magazine. Our aim is publishing the first volume of the magazine at the end of this month, and basing it on quarterly cycles. The idea is to generate the magazine such a way that every team member would find something for her/himself in it, let it be the sites you work, the people you work with, or may be personally yourself, people joined recently, new babies born, new colleagues got married, stories, even cartoons J.

And we thought it should start with naming the magazine. Now, we need your help coming up with a name for the magazine title. The person whose title is chosen will win Dhs. 500 and, of course, the most important of all, receive recognition for being a creative genius!

Mr. Khalil Khoury and editing team will be the jury to decide the name and of course the winner.

Please note that both Arabic and English titles will be accepted. You can send your suggestions to Elly or me before 12th March 2009 and we will announce the winner in the 1st edition of the magazine.

I would appreciate if you encourage the involvement of other employees who don’t have any mail addresses. They can call of fax their suggestions to me or Elly.

Good luck, and may the best man (or woman!) win.

waiting for your suggestions.....................
