I am a hardware engineer and is currently operating from my home itself. I undertake servicing of computers and desktops and as i do not have a shop i give service to the customers at their location itself. I do not have any employees assisting me as mine is a very small set up. Do i need a Shop Act License?

Dear Member,
Shops Act is a state Act & first decide which of the State Shops & Establishment Act may happen to be applicable to you & thereafter go through the definition of the 'shop' under that State Shops Act to decide whether you are covered under the definition of shop or not. In general,if you are taking work orders on your mobile & you have also not declared your home or any portion of it as premises for the use of your office/business or service work then in my opinion you are not required to have Shops Act licence/ registration from any competent Authority under this Act. There must exist premises for the use of business/trade/service/office.
opinion submitted as requested.
