Dear Hansa
Thanks for your nice contribution... This document is really good one...
As per our newly corporate guideline we are suppose to keep the Work Permits copy for seven days after work... As there is no guidelines in any act, I think it various from organization to organization...

Dear All,

I would to share following which may solve issue some extant:

2. As per factory act-1948 where is the mentioned it's types & use

The requirements of work permit system is mentioned in the in Rule No. 172 of Gujrat Factory Rule.

4. Is work permit required sign of safety officer ( if one safety officer is in org. then what to do if he is on leave)

Sign on work permit is not required by safety officer. Actually safe work conditions has to be ensured by the person who is issuing the work permit which is nothing but a sort of checklist and authorisation to ensure that safe work condition or site where the work to be done is free from any abnormal things which might be a cause of accident or hazards and ensuring that safety precaution to be followed. Work permit supposed to be issued by the area incharge where the work to be done. The safet officer may check the work permit is followed or not during his round of the area. Different companies defind the different types of role of safety officer in the regards which depends the structure of teh safety department & maturity of the safety management system. If safety officer have specific responsibility of this job than some other competent can perform this job.

5. For routine maint. work permit is required? any sample format?

General work permit may be consider for general routien maintenance work (cold work only) which covered ensuring of general safety provisions to be required during work.

I hope it will add some in above reffered by all friends.

Thanks & regrads

In organisation Permit issuing authority is separate section. only safety officer will be cross checked the permit system.
Daily/ routine (Normal work ) no permit required for the perform the job . But if Depts like to take permit for the job no boundation.

Dear All,
I missed discussions in this thread.
I have read the complete conversion.
I have seen most of the Industries have permit systems to ensure compliance. I fully agree with Mr. Pillai that this has to be followed in spirit.
This is to be followed in true sence for communicating hazards, ensuring proper equipments, PPEs.
While accident investigation of one of our vendors work place, the permits were issued, but none of the donditions in the permit were followed.
There is no use of such systems.
The work permit system is to be looked as "Proactive means to identify hazards and to mitigate adverse consequences of these hazards"
Very good discussions on this thread.
Thanks & Regards,
Sudhir
