What is more important? Competency or Skill?

Without an efficiency of competencies, utilizing your skills are doubtful. Skills can’t be used when there is no competency at times. take care&cheers

Dear All,

The dictionary definitions of skill and competency are as follows:

Skill: an ability to do an activity or job well, especially because you have practised it

Competency: an important skill that is needed to do a job.

However competency goes further from just not being a necessity to do a job but to excel in that job. Its more related to bringing success in a job.

dear all, I am accepting Sastry point of view. there is slight difference between these word practical usage

I agree with Mr.Sastry. To attain competency one sould have the attitude first. Then acquire knowledge in the field selected. Practice what is learned. Check the result. Based on the result acquire more knowledge; apply the knowledge and work. This way the competency is gained.

Competency is nothing but accurate usage of skills in a related domain or right situation or in simple using right skiils @ right ratio @ right situation @ right proportion. Cheers Pallavi
