We are a Software engineering company.The total strenght is 80 employees.The challenge i have is to create a performance appraisal system as along with software development department we also have a in-house BPO,Call Center,Medical transcription as well as a training department.
Setting up an appraisal sytem for all ,having one basis and yet having to cater to diversified departments is confusing yet challenging.
Please give your suggestions or any sites which can really help.

Hi.....
Make a performance appraisal form for each department.
Most companies have performance management policies and processes that require, among other things, an annual formal written evaluation for each employee. Some companies go further and also require quarterly reviews.
You can use following step for the appraisal
* Quarterly/half yearly/yearly performance review
> Self performance review(Ask employee to submit the form to PL/TL)
> Performance review from Head of Department (Ask HOD to write his/her comments)
> Performance review from HR (based on above finalize the appraisal)
After probation.
* Appraisal
Confirmation with / without increment

After confirmation.
* Yearly increment
> Standard / Special / Outstanding
> Promotion
I have attached sample form of performance review/appraisal form. Hope it'll help you out

Thanks Deep for your valuable information.
We have a six-monthly appraisal system wherein it includes self,supervisor and HR eval and then an average is taken out.But the problem is that it is universal system and since we are working towards policy renewal and trying to make each department seperate we need to also segregate their appraisals.
We are also trying to make the appraisals "production" and "incentive" based.And the system now is very objective and subjective.
I need to make it more focussed and in such a way that it really measures down to actual / "real " appraisal (i hope i am getting myself across clearly :) )
If you can suggest more .....please do thanks.

self appraisal is the best system and that should be compared with the immediate superivisor appraisal and if matches in major percentage like 70 to 90% the performance is most satisfactory like that you have to take decision

As Jagdish says.. Self appraisal is the best system and that should be compared with the immediate supervisor appraisal. It's good suggestion. In this case you can make separate forms for different department n try to make it objective. It means 2 forms (Self & immediate supervisor) for half yearly appraisal. You can add more subjective & incentive points in your performance form. It will easy to evaluate to each one.

Hi ,
elf apprasial is good taught but it would not give the right outcome , see as everyone is aware of that apprasials are done for motivation and self improvements ,so self apprasail wont help .
I would feel 360 degree apprasial woule be more productive , as it gives room for getting feedback from everyone .
Thankx
Jyothi
