Hi Swati,

You exhibit good temperant..especially being not being happy where you are !! :D even i feel the same n i feel i have miles to go before i go...

Just a sec..why do you feel you are working as data operator?..there is so much to learn about the organization this way..u know when i first worked out the increments of my staff when joined..i worked on a blank sheet of paper..i had just had joined and there was no computer available :D :D ..i learned so much being on hands on job..

Have observed that guys who reached the top..have initially slogged at the bottom of the orgn chart..including my boss who is MD...so don;t feel disheartened.. :)

Coming to career growth..please assess yourself first what you have learned and what remains to be learned..n make a game plan to master these areas..

Go upto your seniors with a plan like this..remember take one step a time and master the same..you have a long career ahead of you!

Still you want to learn more..want to keep yourself updated on the latest trends ?..read more on the subjects and of course keep visiting this forum :D

Best wishes,

Dear Swati,

First of all get RELAX!!!! I think you are getting too much stressful regarding your career path and thus not able to learn from your current job. Unsuccessful interviews are adding fuel in your frustration.

You can lean lot many things from your job ONLY IF you are having QUITE MIND FOR OBSERVATIONS.

Since right now you are doing recruitment and time office job, you may start with making some research activities on following points: -

1. What are the good & quality sources of candidates?

2. What is the cost of recruitment? (placement Vs. Employee referrals)

3. Exit interview analysis (Reasons for leaving the organization and how to overcome it)

4. What is the % of late coming / going (project based activities)?

5. What schemes you can implement with approval of top mgt. regarding avoiding late coming / going? (Remember late coming / going also have a cost factor, which you can reduce. This aspect is considered as Value Addition for HR Job) :D

6. What basic schemes you can create, which should never be too costly, but should be more effective. For e.g. The Most Punctual Award, The mOst Clean table award, Role Model employee  , etc. (You can create the parameters for each award).

7. You an also make a HR Weekly newsletter which can include the information about employees, like extra curricular activities, their hobbies, etc, which is considered as EVERYDAY Recognition program.

8. Since you are already working in recruitment and time office, make policies, forms, procedures, and declare on SPECIAL DAYS (For e.g. Office Anniversary, Annual Day, etc) so that you also get LIME LIGHT. IT IS HIGHLY ESSENTIAL TO KEEP YOUR SELF-ESTEEM AT PEEK LEVEL.

Sorry I am running out of time, but i will get back to you afterwards. Or you can also send me practical difficulties at

Hope It is useful.

Dear Swathi,
I wonder howcome you are not able to work on with the strength of 125 associates that to in a software company, how abt the procedures drawn on behalf of your dept, is that you are not assigned any work or your are not taking initiative, or you are not accounatable to your senior person,
there is lot to do with respect to recruitments, appraisals, competency assssments, employee satisfaction survey, attendance monitering, documentation, issue clarifications, organising lectures. what not,
pls don't mind but you will have to clear the above details in order to draw any conclution.

Thanks Shailendra and Srilatha for your valuable ideas...
And coming to Srilatha, in my company the main decisions regarding appraisal is taken by the management.. They are doing appraisals in the completion of 1yr or 6 months completion and it is not done depending on the persormance of the employee.. and i dont have any way to convience the management people b'coz they are the decision makers and using HRD only for providing the appraisal letters once they give the appraisal details.. And policies framed are also not followed properly.. Even if i come up with new ideas and suggest to my management they are not ready to do that... I'm really frustrated...

Dear Swathi,
Its really sad, but If this is the case then put a question to the management asking on why have they recruited you, or when will you be promoted since it is 1 year there must be some sort of change interms of your work implementation, if you have any peers working along with you then it will be more easier to approach them and solve the issue. Try this swathi.
