Hi All,

After the successful discussion about the topic of “IT Experience is a must for a HR Professional to join IT sector”, I would like to initiate a new topic for a discussion about Call centre and BPOs.

I was thinking about this topic for quite some time, as I see the people from Call center or BPO are not able to cope up with the job profile what they are allotted in a new company which is not a call center or BPO. Because they are accustomed to a kind of routine work and they are leading a robotic kind of life, though they are enjoying with higher salary, good working environment, good status, etc. They are really missing the beauty of the world everyday. While people sleep, they are working in the night, and when the whole world running around and enjoying the colorful events, these people are sleeping. (Exceptions are always there for everything)

In my Opinion “The employees from a call center or BPO’s, Don't have a career growth in future, when they move to other industries. Is that correct?”

Hi Sumi,
U r Doubt in Career Growth in Call Center or BPO is right. As u said that they they missing the world beauty by working at nights and sleeping at day time, these people can't live there lives happily though they may be earning in large amounts Bcoz they can't spend there time with there Friends or Relatives instead they will loose Healthy Growth. And the other thing though they may be earning alot in early stages by joining in call centers but they shld remember that its not there career and they will not get Good opportunities after that if they want to join any Industry or Company as Call Center is not there Profession. And no Company will consider this experience infact they will reject u if u say that u r previous job was BPO.
So I Request every one that they should think of once before they start there Career because this is the Foundation.

Hi Arun,

Your views are correct. They may be loosing their career growth. The trend of outsourcing is in boom now, they are not thinking the career growth. They tend to continue in the same sector. But think if the trend of outsourcing is come down, then what is the growth for these people.

Secondly lot of service industries are recruiting the people from call centre for their customer care. But the service given by such people is horrible. They can't face the customer face to face. Because they use to meet the customers through telephone in call centers.

Recently, i got a call from a foreign bank's bpo, saying that I was the one of the privileged member to get their credit card. She asked me sir do you have credit card? I said, if you are selling a credit card I am not interested. Again she asked sir do you have a credit card? I also told I am not interested. Then in a very rude manner she said I asked you, do you have a credit card or not just reply to that . I told her why I should tell you that I have credit card or not. Then again she asked sir we are offering a credit card, shall I send a person. I just replied that I am not interested then why you are offering a card to me? For that she said, then what about Life Insurance? I said No. She asked me tell in what you are interested. I got upset, because it is unsolcited call, and taking our time in talking rubbish things like this, so I said it is none of your business, and then I disconnected the call.

This is one experience I faced with this BPO people, and lot more like this. In this case I can't blame BPO alone for this disturbance, even we have to blame those people who sell the database of the mobile numbers of their subscribers.

Sorry I have deviated the topic, but still I would like to say this because of their monotonous work and unscheduled working hours, they use to get stressed, so they are behaving like this.

This leads BPO or call center employees, not to think about their career goal.

Regards,

Umesh.S.

Hi All,

I appreciate your views on call center & BPS growth but i dont think u guys are entirely correct.

First, there is growth in a call center..In less than a year, you can be supervisors, few months after,a team leader and than a manager, than a senior manager,General Manager,Process Head...it can go on....No, it wouldn’t take you years to achieve that. There is very less politics in call center when compared with any other industry because promotion is entirely dependent on your performance..U perform..u grow..no one can stop..

There are different ways an employee can move after working for more than a year..he/she will have an option to go for Quality,HR,Recruitment,Operations,Management,Train ing..many more....I'll give the simplest example of my friends who have become Voice and Accent trainers and after that moved into IT industry to train Software Engineers..so that they can communicate better in the Global Market...

There are many more streams that a person can grow after working in a call center..i can just go on....giving examples...

In my case ..its been more than 4 years i am working in a call center..I worked with both US and UK clents..During these years i have skilled communication skills and how to handle customer globally..Now i am a part of a knowledge transfer team..My job is to transfer knowledge from the UK and spread it in india..Isnt that interesting..i get to travel a lot...We are all part of Globalization..

Jobs in a call center best suits the saying..."Think Local, Work Global.." Use indian brains to tackle the world...

Sorry guys..i think i said too much...just that i wanted to highlight the fact that working in a call center is not the end...we need support to defeat the world..I know the Uk and the US clients are ruling the BPO and call center industry...but for how long...soon there will be a time when clients will not be able to move without us..we need to reach that stage where we can control....

Hi All,

Was just checking some sites and I finally came to this blog. Coming straight to the point, I am from bpo background. Started my job with 5346- first salary during durga puja 2009.
Used to take inbound calls for US process.
Got promoted as Team leader than group leader then Snr Group leader. In 2015, February, I got promoted as operations manager.

Currently am earning 70k+ incentives + miscellaneous with annual income of 12 lacs.

4 foreign visit so far(Amsterdam, London, Phillipines, Ohio )
I have a girl friend and we are happy. Yes when she sleeps I am awake. ... but that is cool with me as I do night shift 2 weeks in a month.

I feel, everyone has got their own priority in life. Some of my friends are still studying (sponsored by father )- don't know what they are trying to..... but yes.... you cannot say that any profession is bad and has no future till you actually drill down in it. Work pressure is always there -be it government job or private. Just think of a policeman - do you think they have a social life? When whole calcutta is celebrating durga puja- these police men are helping us.... yes they earn more than many of us here in this forum. So, spend a day in our field, and then you will realize the challenge and strategies on which we work upon and why we are getting paid in 5 digits. ...

Thanks
