Indian Institute Of Management, Ahmedabad [India]
In just four decades IIMA has evolved from being India’s premier management institute to a notable international school of management.
It all started with Dr Vikram Sarabhai and a few other public spirited industrialists realizing that agriculture, education, health, transportation, population control, energy, and public administration were all vital elements in a growing society and that it was necessary to link these meaningfully with industry. The result was the creation of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad in 1961 as an autonomous body with the active collaboration of the Government of India, Government of Gujarat, and industry.

FMS pioneered the concept of management training in India in 1954. The first institute to provide management education for professional managers, it has since been in the forefront of this specialized field. The institute has collaborative and exchange programs with various institutions abroad such as: INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France; Manchester Business School, England; Rotterdam School of Management, Netherlands; Katholieke Universities, Leuven, Belgium; University Biefield, Germany; University of California, Berkeley, USA.

The two cornerstones of any institute are its faculty and its students. FMS can boast of a core faculty group of 34 members. Each faculty member is a Ph.D. and is continually in demand as advisors and consultants to companies, institutions and governments. The students are selected after a rigorous process which comprises – a written test which acts as a screening process, followed by an extempore, group discussion and interview of the short listed candidates. The selection ratio is the highest in India at 1:740!!
