Dear Readers

I have a query as I am preparing the salary structures for the employees of my IT company . I want to know whether the uniform allowance component is taxable or non taxable and if it is non taxable then upto what max limit.

Dear Neha,
Uniform Allowance is definitely taxable. What is not taxable is reimbursement of Uniform expenses i.e. you frame a policy that your employees have to come to Office in proper uniform and to facilitate them in doing so you allow reimbursement of expenses they have made on aquiring uniform. Employees have to submit bills for claiming it.There is no limit on amount which can be reimbursed this way but it has to be reasonable.
