hi all,
2 weeks before i have joined new company as an HR Generalist. here they have no HR Dept, and im responsible to formalize everything. so i thought out certain things that i would be working on, but unfortunately im not authorized to do so..my boss stopped me doing anything without his supervision/commands. i agreed and waited for his reply. its been two weeks i have not given any proper work of HR. i hate sitting idle but im helpless. i have asked my boss many times to assign me some work for which i have been hired but no reply i received. (at the time for interview they have promised me that i will be authorized to make changes, propose changes, but now the picture is completly change)
My concern is that what should i do now... should i switch somewhere else? or just waste my time here as i have been paid by handsome amount.
i would appreciate ur opinions.
thanks,
Sk

Somewhat similar case with me too. Even I am offered a good salary and unfortunately the work which I am doing can also be done by aappointing a guy one-third of my salary. I am waiting for another opportunity, I will switch to some other Company or will start my own business. There is no point in wasting time and talent.

Try to speak to move around and meet other colleagues in your department. Try to get details of the work they handle and what improvement they will like to have in the organization. Prepare a report on your observation and ideas which you would like to implement. Then take time from your boss and show him the report and take his inputs also, definitely he will start deputing some work to you.

i would suggest,go and speak to your boss when he is in good mood and give your suggestions and be prepared with of list of items you wish to change or recommend but dnt take any decision in hurry by leaving this job as its risky to change job in this scenario and elsewhere may be you will not get paid so well as here. be patient, try to convince and sell ur ideas to ur boss. be optimistic.good luck.

this is what i learnt from my boss...
there are two types of bosses:-
1) The one who wants you to call an "APPLE" - "Apple"
2) The one who wants you to call a "GRAPE" - "Apple"
Decide what type of a boss he is and react accordingly...
if he is of the 1st type, he will ask you to do something, the moment he can think of something himself.. Bosses are by nature very "Apprehensive". Most of them (Type 2) do not want you to be in the limelight.
The second type of Boss will wait for the instructions from his boss who will be waiting for instructions from his Boss and so on...
So enjoy all you can till the time there is nothing to do... coz once the work starts... u will not have time to post questions on CiteHR.....

P.S.
Tell me, how do u quantify the term "Handsome Salary".... I'm waiting for a "Handsome Salary" for quite some time now.... :)

Hai,
I can understand your problem, but 2 weeks is too less to decide over the situation and take a decision firmly, yes ofcourse that 2 weeks is enough to understand your company senario.
Find the things like Is your company working on any programmes where you will have scope in near future as HR. If not then waht is going to happen is they will delegate some low grade works to you so as to make you work on something and engaged. That is waste of your talent and time.
secondly if you are thinking that you will gain experience working there then i should tell you that experience doesnt count in time it count in knowledge. the questions which you face in any interview putting a min of 6 months experience is too much.
So study you company's ongoing processess and take a decision quickly.
All the best

Sumaira,
Definitely your Boss is not a fool. He might have planned ore predicted few tasks for you. That's they have hired you. Otherwise, will you Appoint and Paid maid in your House without anything? At the same time, are you expecting your maid to Pay 100% in work right from the very first day.
It's Just two weeks. Wait. Switching over to a company will lead to develope "Butterfly Executive" within you.
Finally, you're the Master of Your Mind.

May be your boss is testing your ability. Become familiar with all your employees.Minimum it will take 3 to 6 months to understand fully about the organisation. Wait for the good oppurtunity. Your boss is not a fool to make you sit idle. Prepare a report from your side which is good for the organisation. The same boss could ask what have been doing for all these days.
