Dear All respected members,

Let me wish all of you a very happy and successful new year 2010.

I am Gopal Krishna from Vizag but born and brought up from Calcutta.

I started my career at the age of 25 years old in the year 1997. I was an Arts Graduate and was proficient in Stenography and well versed with computers. But I had to start my career with very low salary i.e., Rs.1,000/- pm as a PA to Marketing manager with a limited company.

You all surprised to know that I had to left 13 companies to grow in my life both financially and professionally. Some of the big companies I worked for are Kirloskar, Garware, Fem Care, Ipca Labs. , Seminis and Ranbaxy in the secretarial field. You all may accept that in Stenography or secretarial field there is very limited scope to grow professionally even though we are very able and sound in knowledge. It took me almost 10 – 12 years to reach the figure of 25,000/- p.m.

I desperately wanted to change my field of job, so with great difficulty I had studied MBA –HR thru correspondence from IGNOU. And I passed recently. Let me tell you that Ranbaxy was the only company where I worked for almost 4 years, but as I studied MBA – HR, and as I wanted to change my field , I compelled to resign from Ranbaxy and accepted a post as HR Head in one Perfume manufacturing company , head quartered at Dubai. I was responsible for Sales staff, Accounts and Logistics staff of the company. They were 400 employees in the company. Actually to get the job, I compelled to say lie that I had earlier HR experience.

Anyway after joining the company, as HR Head, with same salary of Rs.25,000/- p.m., I was responsible for Pay roll, Recruitment, Filing, PF, ESIC, Performance appraisal, and all other statutory compliances. It was a retail company in Mumbai with its branches at Delhi and Bangalore. I was only one person who was handling the entire group without any assistance. (ONE MAN SHOW).

But to everybody’s surprise, I worked so nicely that no body could doubt about my past experience. I was very updated with everything which is required for the company moreover, I was computer savy. I transferred successfully manual payroll into atomized pay package with accuracy single handedly. Where ever the same package could not have been installed in similar group with my boss as GM – HR and one Assistant manager – HR, Officer HR , one IT person, and one secretary.

In view of all these, my boss was so happy with my work and performance that he twice standup from the chair and shook hand with me for my brilliant performance. I was thinking to continue there I worked there for 1.5 year but to my misfortune, I learnt that one receptionist , who was handling all admin work from the beginning , was in a habit of receiving commissions from the vendors illegally. So when I tried to took that in my hand and tried to save the companies money, the lady receptionist was terribly annoyed with me.

So she made a plot against me. She intentionally dashed me slightly while going across me, and started shouting at me as I intentionally dashed her. Seeing the situation, I politely said sorry. But she made this a big issue that my conduct is not good and I intentionally dashed her. My boss came and he was also believing her may be due to some ego problem earlier, because even though he was my boss but HR knowledge is not much , he done diploma in HR, and good in wasting time.

Keeping the above circumstance and also being the fact that it was a muslim organization (partial to hindus), I thought its better to resign so I resigned and walked away.

I though its right time to settle in South , (Hyderabad), as being myself south Indian, so I came to Hyderabad to search for a job. I tried very hard to get a HR job, but I was shortlisted in 3 – 4 places but they were offered only Rs.15,000/- pm and that to with a bond of 3 years, which was not acceptable to me.

So I even tried to get secretarial job and fortunately I got job as pa to chairman in an MNC with a salary of Rs.25,000/- pm. But with a bond for 3 years, but to get this job I compelled to search for 4 months in Hyderabad.

But I am most satisfied to work as a HR person, please advise , what can I do in these circumstances.

Dear Gopal,
Good to hear your committment towards HR field. What i can see from your story is that you have varied experience. And in today's scenario org's do not have time to train anybody and do not go for what you can do but wat u have done.
I feel you should prove yourself in your current job, plus you can talk about ur interest to your boss. You can assure that you can take additional reponsibilities and would like to take HR as your future career. may you can start helping in recruitment, one area where there is huge work.Your assistance could be welcomed.
Gradually during your appraisal etc you can put forward your desire for HR role backed by your past and current Hr knowledge. And this could be just a beginning. And yes do not leave this job unless and until you really have a good opportunity. Job Hoppers are a no- no in market.
I hope you make best out of your current organization.
All the best

Hi,
Plz dnt gt upset as you have the knowlegde & experience too.So wait for the right opportunity, till then here you can ask your boss to give you some additional responsibilities in HR ,try to convince him about your talent and skills.Be patient. Also avoid job hopping and be sure of what you want to and before taking anything think twice then go ahead. You could have gone into HR with a less pay which would have given more job statisfaction atleast .Good Luck.

Stay on purpose, not on outcome. In other words, do the task because it is what you love
to do or because it will help someone or is a valuable exercise. Don't do it for the money
or the recognition. Those will come naturally. This is the way of the world.
All the Best
Have a bright future

Mr.Gopal,
My personal suggestion to you, In life it is very important that no matter what you need to stay positive. I don't know whether you are positive in your thinking.. You need to ask your self? What is important to you in life now, money or designation? Where do you see yourself 5 years from now? What are your goals? Do you dream big? These question seems vague but when you find the answers, you will definitely achieve more than you can think off. I would suggest that please let your heart decide and not your mind.
Where your past experience is concerned, take the learnings and don't lose that hope. Believe in God, definitely he has something beautiful planned up for you. We have all have a share of pain and sorrows, it is what you take out of it.
Good Luck!!
God Bless!!
