Dear Lakshmi,
IT means Information Tecnology and ITES means IT Enables Services.
ITES services are the services which do require the aid of IT but not the hardcore IT. It includes soft skills like communication wherein we do make use of computer to feed in the reponses. These services are mainly used in BPOs and KPOs wherein we feed the information of the customers in the database on computer.

IT stands for INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY wherein ITES stands for Information Technology Enabled Services
ITES is a part of IT
ITES also has a part called BPO Business Process Outsourcing
BPO in itself again is a huge field
The latest development in ITES field is BPO, callcenter, back office job and now what is coming is KPO knowledge process outsourcing & LPO legal process outsourcing

Hello Lakshmi,
According to the Information Technology Association of America IT is: "the study, design, development, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems, particularly software applications and computer hardware."
While ITES as a form of outsourced service which has emerged due to involvement of IT in various fields such as banking and finance, telecommunications, insurance, etc.
So, the difference one is an outsourced service and the other is a the general description of what ITES does.

IT - Information Technology ( Which Includes HARDWARE and SOFTWARE INDUSTRY and even IT Telecom )
If you ask my suggestion as to in which field you need to go then prefer IT or NON IT Dont go for ITES. Your career will be spoilt

IT companies are those that provide consultancy to the client that are related to the IT infrastructure or processes. As an example, an IT company may develop some application that will be used in a bank.
In case of ITES or IT enabled services, the companies provide services using IT. As an example, an online data entry job is an ITES. This has nothing to do with the maintenance of the application related to the data entry.

I am shocked to see everyone comparing ITES with BPOs and KPOs. Any insourced service which is accelerated or operated by integrating Information Technology is ITES. If there is an Inhouse Call Center supported with the CRM and ACD etc, then it is also ITES. TELEMEDICINE is ITES, eCourts is ITES, These are not outsourced services. So dear CITEHREANS, ITES is any service supported by Information Technology. The Modern Secutiry and Attendance System is also an example of ITES.
