Perception!!

There were two brothers in a small village in the Eastern Cape. The twin brothers grew up knowing nothing else but poverty. Their father was an alcoholic and their mother a domestic worker. They grew up with very little.

On their way home one day, their parents were involved in a bus accident and died instantly. The brother's condition became even worse. At age 17 they separated. Years and years later a family member decided to find them for a family reunion.

One of the brothers was a wealthy engineer owning a construction company. He had a wife and three beautiful kids. The other was an alcoholic with no sense of direction for his life.

The family member asked the engineer, "How did your life turn out like this?"

"What did you expect with a childhood like mine?" he answered.

She moved on to the other brother with the same question.

"What did you expect with a childhood like mine?" was his answer.

"Men are not disturbed by the things that happened but by their perception of the things that happened."

" Each person paints their picture of reality with a brush dipped in the pigments of the past "

A monk asks a superior if it is permissible to smoke while praying. The superior says certainly not. Next day the monk asks if it is permissible to pray while smoking. That, says the superior, is not merely permissible, it is admirable. The moral of the story is that much depends on how a thing is presented.

A quote from Epictetus; a philosopher who believed Individuals are responsible for their own actions which they can examine and control through rigorous self-discipline.

During a momentous battle, a Japanese general decided to attack even though his army was greatly outnumbered. He was confident they would win, but his men were filled with doubt.
On the way to the battle, they stopped at a religious shrine. After praying with the men, the general took out a coin and said, I shall now toss this coin. If it is heads, we shall win. If it is tails we shall lose.
Destiny will now reveal itself.
He threw the coin into the air and all watched intently as it landed. It was heads. The soldiers were so overjoyed and filled with confidence that they vigorously attacked the enemy and were victorious.
After the battle. a lieutenant remarked to the general, No one can change destiny.
Quite right, the general replied as he showed the lieutenant the coin, which had heads on both sides.

For perception the best case study I do feel is the war between the Spartans and Egyptians.

Just 300 soldiers and they almost defeat the mighty Egyptians where everybody thought they would fail.

It is also taught in many schools as case studies for strategic thinking.

Excellent post Himaaaaaaaaaaa as usual.
