How do I handle this situtation?
Hi Everbody,

I would like to have some advice from you pls help,

I am working for a software compnay has Manager Admin, but also handle HR responsibility since there is no other HR. I have been working here for past 1 year 3 months, normaly you get increment either during the appraisal time or in some case completing of one year,

In fact a lot of employees were remove from work due to layoff in our Organisation, before I joined this organisation, so now we are very few employees, when I had joined I had lot of work to do, now its very less work and most of the time I am free here and it is very difficult with out any work to do. I have a guilt to ask my boss for increment becasue of less work. I am not in the position to quit my job since my notice period is 4 months, and in our present company situtation there is a chance to close down yet not decided, but it will take approx 7 to 8 months min for a closure of a MNC. since its a UK based we have lot of government formalilty to fullfill for a closure of an MNC orgnisation.

My boss is a very nice person an CEO who is a heading the India branch ( only branch in Bangalore) , I need to ask for the increment because I will have to stay back in case if they decide to close the company, and in this situtaion it is not possible to recurit a person and I can't be injustice to the compnay by quiting my job, and If I don't get the increment now it will be almost 2 years and odd with the same salary and when I need to look out for the change of job I can't except for a higher salary .

Please adice what I can to do in this situtaion?

Regards

Hi Das,

As you mentioned that your boss is a very nice person, try to talk out your problem with your manager and see what he has to say, there is nothing like being injustice to the company, decide whats important for you, your job or the loyalty towards the company..i don't see any chances of you getting a hike as you said that the company is in verge of closing down..start looking out for a change if you are very keen on getting a hike..handle this situation carefully as the market has just started to open up post recession, that too for techies..all the best

Hi vijaya,

Thanks for your advice, I am not in the technical position, I handle administration and also few HR activities, I can start looking out for jobs, But one thing is that in my appointment letter the notice period is 4 months, No company will give more than one month time to join.
Now a days when you send the resume there your need to mention the CTC expected and current and also notice period.

Please I need few more advice from seniors.

Hi Jerosia,

If your boss is a nice person please talk to him on the increment there is nothing to feel guilty on this as you have stayed with the company during its bad time and you have really worked hard when it is needed.
In case you are looking for a change you can join the company which is offering you immediately by paying the notice period of 4 months, but again if you feel its huge for you to pay you can ask your reporting authority to consider your case and make the notice period of one month. Most of the companies dont hold back the employees especially in the supporting staff nowadays. So go ahead and look for a good opportunity.

Dear Jerosia,

Since you have already mentioned the company may close there is a 50-50 chance of getting an increment. There is nothing called guilt while asking for what is due for us. Speak to your boss on this and wait for the final decision. Regarding notice period some of the companies buy back the notice period, speak to your prospective employer and then take a final decision. Since the company is already on the verge of closure I do not think they will hold you back citing notice period reason. Anyways your statements are good when it comes o loyalty towards the organization.

Best of Luck and keep us posted so that we can also learn something out of your experience.

If you are desparate on the job in hand, wait for some more time. Otherwise, boldly ask for increment.

Hi Vijaya, Alwar, Ponraj,

Thank you for your advice, I have decided to wait for one more month and see what will be the decission of my company , In case I dont get any news, than I will talk to my boss for the increment or to relive me once I get a job,

My boss when he told me one month back that there is a 50: 50 chance of closure of the company , He said me not to panic in case something happens we will get 5 months time to complete the closure formality and will pay 4 month notice period for me, I feel guilt because I am the only one in the administration and few other are in software they are no way connect to the daily activities, so if I leave now in this situtaion, my boss CEO will really have a very tuff time in handling of this situtaion, because all vendor and even samll things he needs to handle, so I realy feel for that situtation, because he has been good to me and others in times of our need.

Anyways thanks for your adivce, will wait as you have told for some more time, so that even the market my pick up, at least till this end of 2009.

Regards
Monica
