| | | | Resigned from current job after receiving email offer letter - any risk? Hi,
I received an offer letter by email having a joining date. Later, the joining date was revised and an email was sent (in reply to the previous email) stating the new joining date. These emails are received from the employer's official ID (of HR). However, on request for a signed scanned copy, the HR personnel said it would be send as soon as it is ready, however, I have already put in my paper based on the email confirmation and after confirming from the HR over the phone. Am I at risk, please advice?

a) The new date that has been given to you is asking you to join early or late?
b) You & your employer is based at the same city/state ?

the mail from the official id stands. hope you stored it.
so don't worry you are not in a mess.
sometimes, the HR alters the joining date. let's assume, you are required to join during dusshera - the company sees holidays lined up. if you join tomorrow and there are 5 holidays and then the next working day, the company may have to pay you for these 6 days. they prefer to have you on the opening day after the holidays
alternatively, if the person you are reporting to in the new company is not available and is going on tour or on leave, the company looks at your boss' availability and asks you to join.
I faced both the situations - I attended the interview and based on oral commitment, I tendered my resignation. the appointment order took almost a week to reach me (I also got the scanned copy). subsequently, my new boss was to go on tour and the joining date was re-scheduled. I had to join earlier. it happens. don't worry. the mail from official id is enough proof of your receiving an order of appointment. the job is yours and if you don't get it you can as the last recourse, sue them.

Its ok if you have an email correspondence regarding the joining date. It is acceptable. But still you should have waited till the scanned copy mailed to you. Even I was in this situation but it was the other round, the company had mailed me the offer letter but my present company was not relieving. But do not be haste in taking decisions like resigning since the present company will not take you back until and unless you are indispensible with. But what if the future employer puts the position on hold? Speak to the HR of your prospective employer and tell him/her the facts.
Think twice before taking decisions like resignation. Quote:

| | | | As per the IT ACT and Amendment of IT ACT 2006, the e-mail is a bonafide legal document. Do not worry. Just preserve the e-mail offer till you have got the hard copy. | |

| | | | An Offer received through Email is fine. Just preserve a copy. Be sure to send a reply in receipt of the said mail and also confirm that you would be joining them on a particular date.
having a hard copy of an Offer Letter on the Company's letterhead does not give you any foolroof protection.
Do not worry, you are safe.
Best Wishes,
