Hello all..I am new to the forum and this is quite an interesting one.

I have been in the scenario potrayed as an executive search consultant, and the email offer was re-called by the client!

Thankfully, I had adviced the candidate concerned not to resign without receiving a hrdcopy of the offer letter.

Sandip, I am happy that you did not get burnt on this...but for other people considering a career move out there, it is better and safer option to wait for all the i's to be dotted wrt to an offer before going ahead to resign an existing position.

Hi yhurmie,

I realized that this is a very critical situation I am going through. Though, before resigning I spoke to the concerned HR and have been in contact for every update, is there anything one can do if something goes wrong? I came to know that email offer letter is valid as per IT Act 2006 and even if a hard copy of the offer letter is provided and later rejected, nothing much could be done, I guess, unless one receives the Appointment Letter, which is given on the joining day. I guess it's all about taking Risks and Luck.

Dear Friends,

A large variety of views have been exchanged with regard to Offer Letter or Letter of Intent (LOI) being received through email or insisting for a hard copy.

I look at this as a relationship which will have to based on mutual trust. An Offer Letter through the email or even a Hard Copy is no foolproof guarantee that you will get the job. However, you just have to trust the new employer and accept the Offer letter as the first step towards begining a new professional relationship whihc I repeat has to be built on mutual trust.

If the prospective employer wants to play foul there is precious little that you can do, really. However such instance are very rare.

Therefore, friends do not get unduly perturbed about Offer letter being sent through emial or hard copy, both are just fine and you can go ahead and put in your papers (if you have decided to take up the Offer that has been made to you) and look ahead with a positive bent of mind.

Yes, you will receive your Appointment Letter only AFTER you join the Company and complete the pre-joining formalites.

Details of the terms and conditions are spelt out only in the Appointment Letter.

Best Wishes,

Vasant Nair

Question: If the organization is a bit disorganized at this point, will they be better organized once you become an employee of theirs? Just something to ponder.

What ever decision you make, it should be the best for you and your future.

Be well
