Dear Rashmi,

It appears that you have not made your career development plan. Else you would not have asked this question.

To prepare your career plan first you need to do SWOT analysis of your career. Ask yourself which competencies do I have, which competencies I need to develop.

You have seen only one industry that is recruitment industry. Nothing wrong in it per se. But you need to have some mentor also who can guide you in your career development. Choose the right mentor.

Are you member of professional networking sites? If yes then start participating in the discussions that take place occasionally. Monitor the discussions carefully. Think if you were to give reply to particular post, what you would have done?

Every company should have budgetary allocation for training and development. Alike company you also should make some allocation of your earning for your own training. Don't just rely on the company to provide you the training. Spend your own money for your development. You will reap rewards of your investment some 5 or 10 years later.

Ok. All the best!

Dear Rashmi,
You have to be more explanatory when you say “how can you prove yourself”?

From my view you have “proved” yourself & that’s why you have been promoted from an “executive “ to a “Business Head” in a short span of 3 years + as you said now you have “many people report to me who are senior in terms of age and experience” so that’s another indication that you have proved yourself because of which this kind of responsibility has been handed over to you.

So that makes me wonder what other advice/s you are looking for.

Still on a generalised note to prove yourself I can suggest you that be honest & dedicated to your job, respect others, don't be biased, think & then act etc.
